DescriptionGrantsExpenses
The Yappie, Inc. is a Delaware nonprofit corporation that operates as an online news service designed to serve AANHPI communities across the U.S. The Yappies content is produced by an editorial team consisting of 9 active editors and writers, all of whom are students or recent college graduates with journalism backgrounds. The corporations founders, Board of Directors, and officers have also worked at prominent news outlets (e.g., Politico, Axios), AANHPI advocacy groups (e.g., OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates), think tanks (e.g., Council on Foreign Relations, CSIS), and various government bodies. The Yappies newsroom produces three categories of content: newsletter briefings, hard news stories, and feature-length articles. Newsletter briefings collate and analyze recent policy developments affecting AANHPI communities. Hard news stories cover events with major policy implications for AANHPIs and are normally published in the immediate aftermath of said events. Lastly, feature-length articles are in-depth examinations of larger, longer-term policy issues relevant to AANHPI communitiesespecially those that have yet to receive significant attention. 2024 remained an active year for The Yappie. We published 12 biweekly newsletters, featuring both aggregations of recent news and analyses from our writersincluding specialized sections covering campaigns in the leadup to the 2024 elections. We broke important news exclusives regarding presidential campaigns advertising efforts targeting AANHPI communities. And we also published a number of in-depth features, examining everything from AANHPI participation in Hollywood actors unions and efforts to document the stories of Chinese dissidents. In the fall, as the 2024 elections approached, we paused our normal newsletter coverage and instead curated a series of features, analyzing where AANHPI voters stood in 8 battleground states. We also continued our partnership with the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) in republishing pieces from their VOICES program, which supports youth journalism. Following the election, The Yappie has embarked on a major rebranding and transformation initiative. This effort aims to reevaluate how our editorial content can more effectively serve AANHPI communities representing diverse political perspectives and expand our audience, all the while maintaining our steadfast commitment to nonpartisan journalism. Thanks to the generosity of our past and present donors, we were able to subsidize our editors and writers as they attended important AANHPI-focused conferences, including AAJAs summer convention in Seattle. These events continue to help our staff build connections within the AANHPI community that will prove important to growing The Yappies reach and support. The Yappie will continue to build on these efforts in 2025.-$25,033
