The mission of Spotlight Cast & Crew is to provide a musical theatre experience that is directed, choreographed, designed (lighting, sound and costume) and performed by students in grades 8-12 in the greater Fort Worth Area. The objective of our mission is to provide an annual three-week intensive in the summer at no cost to any of the students involved. Spotlight Cast & Crew is an equal opportunity organization and provides opportunities to students regardless of race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, socioeconomic status, gender, or sexual orientation. In 2021-2022, thirty-three high school students from 16 schools in the Greater Fort Worth area produced and performed Legally Blonde at the Scott Theater on Fort Worth Country Days campus. Auditions for the third show, Chicago Teen Edition, were held January 7, 2023. Thirty-one students from 17 schools attended and performed June 23 & 24. On June 27, 2023 Spotlight Cast & Crew received a Fort Worth Certificate of Recognition from District 9 Councilwoman Elizabeth Beck at the June City Council meeting. Members of the Chicago Teen Edition performed for the council and audience. The 2024 production of The Little Mermaid was performed at Fort Worth Country Days Scott Theatre on campus June 21 and 22, 2024. Of the metrics we track (all broke previous SC&C records in 2024): The number of students participating; The number of area schools represented; The number of new students who auditioned and were cast; and Ticket sales the 1st sold-out show was in 2024. One of the most important gauges of success is the students own assessments of growth and benefits received. Our retention rate is high, and we hear frequently from grateful students and parents about the value of their SC&C experience. SC&C has two part-time paid adults and honorariums for college mentors. Joe Westermann, President and Co-Founder, and Melodee Halbach, Director of Development and Co-Founder are volunteer only.
