It is the duty of the individual to disclose all material facts to the board of directors. After discussion with the individual, the remaining board members will decide if a conflict exists. If a conflict of interest exists, the board or committee will investigate alternatives to the proposed transactions to determine if there are more advantageous options. The minutes of the board will contain the name of persons disclosed who were found to have an actual or potential conflict of interest, nature of the financial interest and action to determine whether conflict of interest in fact existed. The policy is periodically reviewed by the board.

Minneapolis building & construction trades council, an unrelated organizations, pays the compensation of the executive director, rick martagon. Rick was paid compensation of $140,363 and $39,950 of benefits. Building strong communities, inc reimburses minneapolis building & construction trades council for this. Research is done annually on comparable executive director position compensation for other nonprofit organizations. Designed to keep graduates engaged in their search for a career in the construction industry, the program provides the participants engaged with one-on-one mentoring including mock interviews, individual tools for the search, application, and interview process.

The organization has a tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code (irc) and has adopted accounting for uncertainty in income taxes, asc 740-10. The organization's policy is to evaluate uncertain tax positions, at least annually, for the potential for income tax exposure from unrelated business income or from loss of nonprofit status. The organization continues to operate consistent with its original exemption application and each year takes the necessary actions to maintain its exempt status. It has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under the irc and charitable contributions by donors are tax deductible. In compliance with its exempt status, the organization annually files a return of organization exempt from income tax (form 990).
