Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The nc climate justice collective is a multi-racial, intergenerational movement ecosystem rooted in the communities who are first and worst impacted by climate and environmental harms. We center our work in the leadership of youth, indigenous peoples, people of color, women, low wealth, and lgbtqi+ people to create strategic alignment: we are bringing an end to fracked gas infrastructure, coal ash pollution, biogas from factory farms and biomass from forest destruction. Using popular education and cultural organizing, we address the root causes of climate change and plant the seeds of a life-sustaining, regenerative society.

Organized our Ballots and Balance Roadshow, a nine-event dynamic cultural arts tour designed to raise awareness about climate issues and the power of democracy. Finding Our Balance, an interactive multimedia performance created by the NCCJC, was the heart of this experience. Our community-based performances combined spoken word, visual art, movement, soundscapes, and puppetry into beautiful storytelling that 1 inspired action. These Ballots and Balance events also featured local guest speakers and nationally renowned performers such as Taina Asili to spark creativity, activism and community engagement.
