This is within the organization's first five years of exemption, and it is therefore treated as a public charity under section 509(a)(2) regardless of current-year concentration of support. The organization expects to broaden its funding base in future years and will continue to receive support from the public and community organizations.”

“The organization received a grant award from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety in 2024. Funds were disbursed by the Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration, which is therefore listed as the contributor on Schedule B.”

“BlackNatchez.org is a volunteer-led nonprofit that operated with limited funding and activities prior to 2024. In 2025, the organization identified its federal filing obligations and promptly brought all required filings up to date. The Board has since implemented formal procedures, including assigning oversight to the Treasurer and adopting a compliance calendar, to ensure timely and accurate filings going forward.”

“In 2024, BlackNatchez.org hosted a Living History series featuring Dr. Lamar Braxton, which drew over 200 attendees and advanced the organization's mission of preserving and promoting Black culture in Natchez. The organization also focused on capacity building and fundraising, securing a $99,500 contribution from Alfred Street Baptist Church and a $22,246 grant from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (funds disbursed by the Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration). These funds will be used to launch historic preservation and community redevelopment projects beginning in 2025.”
