“A.L.I.'s 2024 Program Accomplishments are as follows: Trenton Ninth Grade Academy (TNGA) Cohort: A.L.I. implemented identity, wellness, and leadership programming for ninth-grade scholars in Trenton, NJ. Students participated in cultural heritage exploration, personal storytelling, and a DNA reveal hosted by Dr. Gina Paige, Co-Founder and President of AfricanAncestry.com. Four students developed and recorded TEDx Talks as part of their leadership showcase, amplifying their voices as young cultural ambassadors. Higher Education & Industry Collaborations: A.L.I. hosted summer interns from Princeton University's RISE Program and Yale University's First-Gen Summer Bulldogs Program. Interns supported curriculum design, digital media production, and program evaluation to strengthen learning outcomes and expand A.L.I.'s reach. Community Partnerships and Food Sovereignty: In partnership with Camden Dream Center, Feeding America, the Food Bank of South Jersey, and Mastery High School, A.L.I. helped install seven Fork Farms hydroponic systems in Camden's AgriLab, producing up to 140 pounds of fresh produce per month. This work provided hands-on AgSTEM learning experiences while promoting food justice, sustainability, and environmental education among youth. RootCamp 201 - Program Design and Launch: A.L.I. finalized the curriculum and developed participant and facilitator materials for RootCamp 201: Farming in Color - Rooted in Justice, in partnership with Pinelands Preservation Alliance, Roots to Prevention, and Parkside Business and Community In Partnership. The program, held at the Camden County Historical Society, culminated in a business pitch event where six emerging food entrepreneurs presented business plans and competed for funding to launch or grow their ventures. RootCamp 201 built regional capacity for equitable food entrepreneurship and advanced community wealth-building. Organizational Capacity and Governance Development: A.L.I. strengthened its internal infrastructure to support organizational sustainability and long-term growth. The organization expanded its Board of Directors to ten members, enhanced governance policies and internal controls, and completed a comprehensive strategic planning process to define short- and long-term priorities. A new board screening process, succession and transition plan, and confidentiality policies were developed to strengthen accountability and oversight. The Founder completed specialized leadership training and mentorship to prepare for the expansion of Farming in Color: Rooted in Justice. Overall Impact: A.L.I. engaged approximately 200 youth, families, and community members across New Jersey through identity development, wellness, food sovereignty, and entrepreneurship initiatives. Each program reflected A.L.I.'s mission to reconnect youth of African descent with their heritage, build critical thinking and 21st-century skills, and equip them to thrive as leaders, innovators, and global citizens.”
