Marion County North-Central Ohio Cultural Heritage Assets Mapping Project CHAMP & Countywide Arts Survey -- Marion Voices CHAMP project was our new major program service for FY2024. The project hosted seven half-day cultural heritage assets mapping sessions across Marion County and produced nine 16-page zine reports based on the participatory mapping sessions. Participants answered question prompts and worked with large custom-designed maps to identify key cultural heritage recreational arts & natural resources in their geographic and cultural communities. Project funds provided stipends to all participants; and also supported an associated Countywide Arts Survey Project & focus group discussions. The project team consisted of a core facilitator assistant facilitator map designer translator & liaisons responsible for outreach in each community hosting a CHAMP session. The project budget also included printing for zines packets maps and project supplies materials. Funds were also received for a planned expansion of the project to a 12-county region of North-Central Ohio in FY2025; planning & research activities began for this regional work in FY2024 & the first allocations of grant funding for these activities also landed in FY2024. NOTE: FY2024 program expenses grants may appear unbalanced due to cross-fiscal year begin & end of project grant disbursement schedule for some major program grants.$133,635$67,573
Marion Voices in the Schools MVITS Folklife + Cultural Arts Residencies & Associated Folk Arts Educational Outreach. Marion Voices MVITS program was our largest suite of community folklife programming for FY2024. In FY2024 we completed 23-24 school year programs in two school districts; and launched in another two schools in Fall of 24: serving four total districts across the fiscal year. While direct grants to our partner school supported artists pay Marion Voices again provided funding for curriculum development program coordination artist training & supplies & stipends for a final festival at one school site. In FY2024 MVITS ran residencies with Marion St. Mary School Pleasant High School Ridgedale Elementary School & Grant Middle School & supported 15+ community teaching artists working in the schools: including several first-time teaching artists. NOTE: FY2024 program expenses grants may appear unbalanced due to cross-fiscal year begin & end of project grant disbursement schedule for some major program grants.$16,337$26,350
Marion Black Joy Summerfest 2024 -- Founded in 2021 by a team of Marion Voices community co-curators Marion Black Joy Summerfest -- Marions annual celebration of Black summertime traditions held at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park on Marions West Side on the Saturday following Juneteenth -- returned bigger & better than ever for its fourth season in 2024. MBJSF 2023 featured LaCosta Mayes as headliner; two narrative stages on Black cultural history in Marion a line-dancing workshop two hands-on kids arts workshops food trucks & a vendor marketplace & a seven-panel exhibit on the history of Marions Great Migration with a month-long promotional lead-up including yard signs flyers banners & postcards. The 5-hour festival drew over 100 people despite significant rain at the events opening.
