Profile
MMIWUSA's mission is to combat the widespread issue of violence against native people which leads to our people going missing and getting murdered. Through our mission, MMIWUSA aims to serve indigenous families in the United States who are affected by violence and poverty. We also aim to protect those who are vulnerable to it in our communities through preventative measures. We serve those who are affected by the loss of a family member to the issue of missing and murdered indigenous women and people (MMIW/P), and those who are at a broader disadvantage due to things like domestic violence, addiction, trafficking, the foster care system, and other issues that are prevalent in indigenous communities. We serve those who are experiencing the oppressive cycles of abuse and trauma caused by the history of colonial violence. We serve all native people, no matter whether they are on or off their home reservation lands.

MMIW USA's number one mission is to bring our missing home and help the families of the murdered cope and support them through the process of grief. We give them hands-on support and guidance and if we don't have the answers, we get the answers so that these families do not feel abandoned and alone in this struggle like so many have before them. Our broader goal is to eradicate this problem so that the future generations thrive. We are doing that through education of the threats that they face and self-defense. We started a monthly program to do just that. It is called Staying Sacred and we educate and have self-defense lessons at every meeting. Our strength lies in the fact that every single one of the staff and volunteers have been assaulted or trafficked and our passion is to be the kind of organization that we needed growing up and beyond.

| Our social media project is used in a number of manners, one of the most important is towards the mission of bringing the missing home. How we utilize it for this mission is to run social media campaigns encouraging our audience to look for the missing in their area, or to reach out to local news outlets about cases in their area. We try as we can to work with journalists to get stories about cases out to the public. We have tangibly seen that getting a case out to our audience has led to people being found safe within hours at times, where they have been missing for days or weeks up to that point. Getting cases out to the media has also helped to get community actors on the ground to start organizing and searching. Having strong social media momentum for cases has been vital in bringing home missing relatives. In addition, we also use this to engage with the public, and get education about the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People out to the public. In 2024 our postings reached more than 186,000 people and helped the families of dozens of missing or murdered Indigenous people. | $0 | $6,010 |
| Our search and rescue program exists to help provide resources and boots on the ground towards bringing the missing home or rescuing our people out of human trafficking. In the year 2024, volunteers mostly donated their time on the ground searching and fliers they purchased to help spread awareness. We paid $40 in total for fliers for a missing persons case. | $0 | $40 |
| Our direct aid program was not funded, and direct grants to families were unable to be provided, however volunteers helped connect families to resources to help meet their needs as well as spending time advocating to law enforcement on the behalf of families. | $0 | $0 |
