Families in Action for Quality Education incubated this program to empower Contra Costa families to advocate for quality education. During 2024, Contra Costa County Charter Coalition received its determination letter from the IRS and started operating as an independent public charity beginning July 1, 2024.

In June 2024, FIA's advocacy led to the passage of the OUSD Resolution to Advance Black and Brown Student Achievement.The resolution commits OUSD to double Black and Brown student proficiency and increase A-G completion from 50% to 80%. 20 district and charter school leaders pledged to share student data transparency. FIA amplified high-performing schools that have had breakthrough success in reading, math, and A-G completion.

FIA hosted Oakland's largest candidate forums in 2020, 2022, and 2023.Hundreds of parents, educators, and youth attended. Parents and youth moderated the forums, directly engaging local elected officials.FIA organized parent leaders to secure a long-term lease from the Oakland school district to Cox Academy, a public charter school operated by a 501(c)(3) organization, unlocking a $28 million in state funding to repair and upgrade the facility. Growth & Data StoryFIA was founded to disrupt the adult-centered status quo in Oakland education. Since 2020, FIA has trained 750 parents to be education champions, influencing policy and practice at the school, city, and state levels.
