We are dedicated to meeting the needs of Georgia's veterans. The Georgia Veterans Service Foundation, Inc. (GVSF) is a federal 501c(3) non-profit organization established in an effort to help our community partners better meet the needs of Georgia's veteran population. We strive to meet the multitude of needs of veterans living in Georgia through the identification of and prompt referral to trustworthy resources and the financial support of the organizations that are directly serving our veterans in every community across the state. Six new Veterans Service Foundation Board members were appointed on July 6, 2023. At that time the following funding priorities were established: Housing, Education, Transportation, Food Insecurity and Mental and Behavioral Health.

Actively seek supplemental funds and in-kind goods, services, and property to promote GA's state war veterans homes and cemeteries and for any other purpose of the GA Veterans Service Board; To provide funds to assist veterans of good moral character with a discharge other than dishonorable for the purpose of service, welfare and rehabilitation; To promote employment and transition opportunities for such persons; to engage in educating the public about veterans' affairs and issues of importance to veterans; and otherwise assist those who have sacrificed so much for our country; To engage in any and all operations necessary or incidental to carrying out these purposes, including the raising of funds for service, welfare and rehabilitation efforts in connection with GA's veterans of military service; To focus on assisting homeless veterans; It shall be at the sole discretion of the GA Veterans Service Foundation to have final say of how money is distributed.

“As per GA Code 38-4-14, section 1, (2) the Georgia Veterans Service Foundation board members shall be appointed by the Commissioner of Veterans Service, subject to approval by the Georgia Veterans Service Board.”

The first was Lexicon Strategies who donated $50,000 to support the very successful 2024 "Lets Connect" Suicide Prevention Summit which is listed as #1 in our program accomplishments under Mental and Behavioral Health. $40,920 was expended. The second was from the Cherry Blossom Festival for $5,000 for general use by the foundation. The foundation board has not identified how these funds are going to be put to use.”

The focus of the summit was making connections, connections with others, resources, military affiliated groups and learning about suicide prevention. There were networking opportunities with Social on the 1st night. We opened the Summit with the purpose (Connections), with a speech from the GDVS Commissioner, and reflections from the Fox Family. Throughout the next 2 days there were classes for clinicians (CEUs), Lethal Means Safety, how to become a member of the Governor's Challenge, a panel of clinicians discussing the trends of Suicide Prevention, lived experiences, Suicide Prevention) identifying the Signs. The 2024 Let's Connect Summit was attended by 150 individuals, 47% self-identified as Service Member, Veterans and their families (SMVF). 88% were satisfied with the 2024 Summit and 96% said they would attend the following year. Over 65 Organizations were represented. Each segment conducts a pre-and-post survey to evaluate the effectiveness of the classes. 71 Surveys were completed (44 Pre) (27 Post). Attendees included 17 Service Members, 27 Veterans, 30 Veteran Family Members, 14 Teens, 10 Children under 13. The attendees lived, worked, and attended schools in 65 Georgia Counties. There were over 17 Vendors in attendance to include: Georgia Suicide Prevention Task Force, Georgia Department of Veterans Service, Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), Department of Public Health (DPH). |
