DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Piano Craft Gallery, Inc. (PCG) manages a gallery and exhibition space in Boston, Massachusetts with the purpose of advancing access to, and appreciation and understanding of, contemporary visual and performing arts in the community. PCG hosts, presents and sponsors art exhibits and performances, as well as lectures, seminars and other events relating to the arts. Artists and performers are local and community-based; some appear by invitation, but many appear by applying for use of the space. PCG charges modest fees to most exhibitors (artists and performers). A typical exhibition fee would be $325-$450 for four weeks use of the space. It is PCG's goal, when funding allows, to make the space available for artists and performers at no cost. Admission to exhibitions and performances is free and open to the public. PCG also provides an affordable community venue for public and private events, such as meetings, classes, lectures and other educational programs, and promotional activity. These are usually one or two night events. PCG usually charges $250 for 4 hours use of the space. However, PCG provides the space gratis for events put on by small non-profits with arts-aligned missions. Attendance at events open to the public is often free. If there is a ticket charge, it would typically be in the range of $5-20. Some organizations hold events by invitation only and determine ticket fees themselves (and retain the ticket fees). An important PCG goal is sharing, promoting, and celebrating the work of racially, culturally, and socio-economically diverse artists of all abilities with the public. PCG works to eliminate common barriers to accessing the arts such as race, education level, and class by guiding our operation through an anti-racist and inclusive lens. This results in diverse networks of individuals accessing the gallery space and experiencing the arts. PCG provides a handicapped accessible venue in Boston where people can enjoy and learn about the diversity of art-making and performing in the Greater Boston area. In addition to exhibition charges, and event and admissions charges, funds are expected to be raised through grants and donations. PCG hopes also to raise additional funds through sales of merchandise such as mugs and t-shirts with the PCG logo, and from occasional commissions on sales of works of art displayed in the gallery. PCG charges a commission of 20% on such sales, well below the market rate of 40-50%. Funds raised will be used, as a priority, to decrease the costs billed to exhibitors for monthly and pop-up exhibitions, to provide regular and on-going maintenance to the physical gallery space and to pay for operational utilities. As available, funds will also go towards increasing the services the gallery is able to provide including increased open hours, free to the public, as well as educational programs, classes, events and exhibitions that will be free or of minimal cost to the public.$71,183$78,784
