Mission

The east new york community land trust (enyclt) was formed to protect, stabilize and expand the stock of affordable homes, locally-owned small businesses and green spaces in east new york and brownsville for the benefit of low- to moderate- income, black and brown residents. The clt exerts control over the built, social and natural environment through community organizing, education, and property ownership.

Due to the purchase of 248 arlington avenue in 2024, and the financials of arlington being consolidated into enyclt, this added a new program that was not applicable in 2023.

Enyclt's programming aims to protect, stabilize, and expand the stock of affordable homes, locally-owned small businesses, and green spaces in east new york and brownsville, to benefit low to moderate-income black, indigenous, and people of color (bipoc) residents. The enyclt will acquire land and lease it for developments/projects that will benefit all residents, such as affordable housing, gardens, community centers, etc. Enyclt will ensure that the community maintains control through its democratically elected governing board made up of local residents. Enyclt purchased its first property in early 2024 at 248 arlington avenue, and formed 248 arlington avenue, llc ("arlington"), to hold the property. Enyclt is the sole member of arlington. Collectively, enyclt and arlington are referred to as the "organization."

The organization is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. Arlington has elected to be treated as a disregarded entity. As a result, arlington will be treated like its parent, enyclt for federal income tax purposes. No provision for income taxes is reflected in the accompanying consolidated financial statements. The organization is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress. The organization believes it is no longer subject to income tax examinations for years prior to 2021.
