IRS990ScheduleA/FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt0Our organization exists to serve the general public by building broad-based community leadership and advancing the common good across Spokane County. We do not operate for private interests and no individual, business, or small group benefits personally from our work. Instead, our mission is to develop local leadership, increase civic participation, and organize collective action on issues affecting the well-being of Spokane residents-such as housing, workforce development, childcare, and education. We are a membership-based organization that represents a broad base of the public through 37 affiliated faith, labor, nonprofit, student, and neighborhood organizations. Our primary decision-making body includes over 70 representatives from these member institutions, ensuring that our priorities and actions reflect community needs rather than private interests. We maintain conflict of interest policies to prevent private benefit and ensure accountability to the public. We engage the public and broader community in multiple ways: Public leadership development and civic education: We train community members in leadership, organizing, and public action through workshops, organizing institutes, and issue campaigns. Volunteer involvement: Hundreds of volunteer leaders participate each year in research actions and community listening campaigns. Public fundraising: We maintain a continuous and bona fide program for public solicitation of funds. This includes: Regular fundraising appeals to our newsletter list of 2,000+ people, individual donor outreach at public meetings and assemblies of 50-200 people, online public donation opportunities, ongoing stewardship of 20+ recurring or major donors. Through these activities, our organization engages and serves the general public by developing local leadership, strengthening civic participation, and building solutions that reflect the diverse interests of Spokane County residents. Only three out of 20 donors contribute more than $2000 annually. The vast majority of our individual donors contribute between $5 and $100 monthly. Our Board is composed of unrelated individuals who represent a broad cross-section of the Spokane community and its diverse public interests. Current board members include: Sarah Lickfold - Executive Director of Transitions, a nonprofit providing housing and supportive services to women and families experiencing homelessness, Jillian Hull - Community Organizer with Health Equity Circle, an interprofessional, student-led organization advancing health equity across four Spokane university campuses, Faith Hayflich - Member of Congregation Emanu-El, representing the Reform Jewish community of Spokane, Mary Lou Johnson - Member of the Inland Northwest Unitarian Universalist Community of Spokane. Together, our board reflects a diversity of perspectives from nonprofit leadership, faith communities, education and student advocacy. No board members are related by family or business.
