“The form 990 was prepared by the outside accountants and reviewed by the co-presidents and board members. A copy of the 990 was provided to the entire board prior to filing with the irs.”
“Each director, principal officer and member of a committee with governing board delegated powers annually signs a statement which affirms such person has received, read, understands and will comply with the conflict of interest policy. If a conflict arises, the chairperson of the governing board or committee, if appropriate, appoints a disinterested person or committee to investigate alternatives to the proposed transaction or arrangement. After exercising due diligence, the governing board or committee determines whether the organization can obtain with reasonable efforts a more advantageous transaction or arrangement from a person or entity that would not give rise to a conflict of interest. If a more advantageous transaction or arrangement is not reasonably possible under circumstances not producing a conflict of interest, the governing board or committee, by a majority vote of the disinterested members, determines whether the transaction or arrangement is in the organization's best interest, for its own benefit, and whether it is fair and reasonable. In conformity with the above determination the governing board or committee makes its decision as to whether to enter into the transaction or arrangement.”
“The day-to-day affairs are run by a non-compensated board. The organization hired its first employee in may 2023, and, prior to that, in april 2023, the co-presidents of the organization made a review of salary levels for similar positions at other nonprofits and determined upon a compensation amount through that process. Each year, the co-presidents engage in a review process with the employee. The most recent review took place in february 2025.”
“The organization does not make its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | FROM ITS FIRST DAYS IN THE SUMMER OF 2020, THE LFAA RECOGNIZED THE NECESSITY OF ESTABLISHING STRONG CONNECTIONS WITH LEGAL SERVICES PROVIDERS IN EACH REGION OF THE NATION. THESE ORGANIZATIONS HAVE BEEN WORKING IN POVERTY LAW AND CIVIL RIGHTS, WITH VARYING DEGREES OF EXPLICIT FOCUS ON THE RACIAL JUSTICE ASPECT OF THEIR WORK. OVER 6 MONTHS, WE CONVENED NUMEROUS REGIONAL MEETINGS WITH LEGAL SERVICES PROVIDERS TO INTRODUCE THE LFAA, EXPLAIN OUR MISSION, AND SEEK INPUT FROM THE NGOS ABOUT THEIR OWN ANTIRACIAL EFFORTS AND THEIR THOUGHTS ABOUT THE WORK TO BE DONE. AS AN ONGOING PROGRAM, LFAA OFFERS PERIODIC SUMMITS TO BRING TOGETHER OUR ALLIANCE FIRMS FOR STRATEGIC DISCUSSIONS MODERATED BY EXPERTS ABOUT ANTIRACISM PRINCIPLES AND CRITICAL ISSUES RELATED TO SYSTEMIC RACISM AND RACIAL EQUITY. SUMMITS PROVIDE ALLIANCE FIRMS WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN FROM LEGAL SERVICES ORGANIZATIONS, COMMUNITY-BASED NONPROFITS, POLICYMAKERS, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, PEOPLE WITH LIVED EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS.LFAA'S INAUGURAL SUMMIT WAS HOSTED IN JULY 2020, AND SUBSEQUENT SUMMITS HAVE BEEN HELD IN OCTOBER 2020, AND IN DECEMBER OF 2021, 2022, 2023 AND 2024. EACH OF THESE SUMMITS (WHICH ARE TWO DAYS IN LENGTH) HAVE FEATURED SPEAKERS AND PANEL DISCUSSION EXPLORING TOPICS OF RACISM AND LEGAL REMEDIES. OUR 19 SUBJECT-MATTER WORKING GROUPS, WHOSE FOCUS COVERS AREAS SUCH AS POLICING, EDUCATION, AND HOUSING, HAVE MET REGULARLY AND GENERATED DOZENS OF DISCRETE LEGAL PROJECTS POSTED ON OUR LFAA BULLETIN BOARD AND TAKEN ON PRO BONO BY OUR 300+ ALLIANCE FIRMS. ADDITIONALLY, THE WORKING GROUPS HELD EVENTS FOCUSED ON SYSTEMIC ISSUES WITHIN THEIR RESPECTIVE SUBJECT MATTERS. THE LFAA HAS CONTINUED TO GROW ITS LIBRARY, WHICH SERVES AS THE ORGANIZATION'S RESEARCH AND REPORT REPOSITORY. IT IS A SEARCHABLE DATABASE THAT HOUSES LEGAL RESEARCH AND FACT-BASED DATA AND ANALYSIS RESULTING FROM WORKING GROUPS ANDS PRO BONO OPPORTUNITIES. MOST OF THE WORK PRODUCT HAS BEEN DRIVEN BY LEGAL SERVICES AND PUBLIC INTEREST ORGANIZATIONS. THE LIBRARY IS CONTINOUSLY UPDATED WITH NEW MATERIALS. WHILE THE ABOVE SHOWCASES THE ADVANCES MADE BY THE LFAA, THERE ARE MORE INITIATIVES BEING UNDERTAKEN TO CONTINUE THE ORGANZATION'S GROWTH AND REACH. |

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 0 | THE FORM 990 WAS PREPARED BY THE OUTSIDE ACCOUNTANTS AND REVIEWED BY THE CO-PRESIDENTS AND BOARD MEMBERS. A COPY OF THE 990 WAS PROVIDED TO THE ENTIRE BOARD PRIOR TO FILING WITH THE IRS. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 1 | EACH DIRECTOR, PRINCIPAL OFFICER AND MEMBER OF A COMMITTEE WITH GOVERNING BOARD DELEGATED POWERS ANNUALLY SIGNS A STATEMENT WHICH AFFIRMS SUCH PERSON HAS RECEIVED, READ, UNDERSTANDS AND WILL COMPLY WITH THE CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY. IN CONFORMITY WITH THE ABOVE DETERMINATION THE GOVERNING BOARD OR COMMITTEE MAKES ITS DECISION AS TO WHETHER TO ENTER INTO THE TRANSACTION OR ARRANGEMENT. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 2 | THE DAY-TO-DAY AFFAIRS ARE RUN BY A NON-COMPENSATED BOARD. THE MOST RECENT REVIEW TOOK PLACE IN FEBRUARY 2025. |
