Educate and support photographers working in the photojournalist tradition.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Awarding grants to currently enrolled college students who are working towards a career in photojournalism. In 2022, The Curious Society awarded two $250 scholarships totaling $500 to two individuals pursuing an interest in photojournalism. In 2021, The Curious Society awarded 16 $250 scholarships totaling $4,000 to 15 individuals pursuing an interest in photojournalism.-$9,465
Annual event for members to learn more about photojournalism. Members, photojournalist, and guest speakers attended a one day event on October 22, 2021. Topics related to current events, goals and publications of the magazine, and get together for members to learn more about photojournalism. This annual event is intended for members to be immersed in photojournalism with established photojournalists featuring their work and speaking on topics relevant to the industry, behind the scenes footage of the processes involved in creating the magazine each quarter, and traditional journalistic ethics. The annual event for 2023 was postponed.--
Publication of the Curious Society magazine: The Curious Society met its main goal of publishing its first edition magazine which consisted of 11x14 high quality print magazine that was delivered to subscribers starting in late November of 2021. The Curious Society magazine was sent to over 690 subscribers. The main goal of The Curious Society is to preseve the institutional knowledge photographers and editors need to produce great photojournalism, to raise the industry standards and quality of photojournalism published in the United States, to give opportunities for those wishing to pursue a career as a concerned photographer working in the photojournalistic tradition, and provide education on photojournalism to the public.--
