“Our services include employment support, training, nutrition and advocacy, translations, and emergency assistance. Over the past 10 years, we havecollaborated with the OCDOH to operate the Healthy Orange Farmers Market, based in the citys central region during the summer and fall. The farmersmarket provides residents with the opportunity to purchase fresh, local vegetables and fruit using SNAP benefits. We also instituted an incentivecoupon program by creating access to Freshconnect Coupons which offer additional funds to residents who use SNAP at the market. We also facilitatednutrition education programming alongside the coupon incentives. Although the market has utilized Senior Coupons when available, it has becomeclear that the need goes well beyond those of older age. There are many families and residents in need who dont qualify for the Senior Coupons. Theweekly farmers market has been critical for CON residents who have limited options for healthy, fresh produce many CON residents also facetransportation and income barriers. Local farmers at the market provide fresh wholesome produce and include many popular items. Communityengagement is also an important feature of the market with activities and demonstration programs. In a joint collaboration with HealthFirst HF andCVS, Cathedral was able to offer flu shots to the community at the Church this fall, a central location convenient to many CON residents. Thiscollaboration with HF will continue with a Coat Giveaway during holiday time. Over the past several years, Cathedral has maintained partnerships withlocal health centers and hospitals to be able to offer health screenings at the market and Church, such as blood pressure and breast cancer screenings.While Cathedral has a longstanding tradition of programs to assist residents with food access and necessary items, the Church has recently focused andgrown its food assistance program to include a weekly Food Giveaway. In 2019, we partnered with OCDOH and Jewish Family Services to deliver freshproduce Farm to Go bags to residents in local housing, who are unable to travel or are homebound. We also partnered with OCDOHs Healthiest Citiesand Counties Grant program, whose focus is to address food insecurity and increase awareness and systems in Orange County for referrals for foodassistance programs. The grant is 1 of 20 grants awarded nationwide. The grant allowed us to facilitate Rx for Produce which promotes affordableaccess to fruits, vegetables and healthy eating in underserved communities through partnerships with healthcare providers, community organizationsand fresh produce retailers.”
