| Other Program Services Support for Immigrant and Undocumented Students The U.S. Africa Institute actively advocates for increased institutional support for undocumented and immigrant students on college campuses in the Los Angeles area and across the United States. These advocacy efforts focus on ensuring that higher education institutions adopt inclusive practices, expand student services, and create welcoming environments for students regardless of immigration status. The Institute collaborates directly with college and university leaders?including presidents, vice presidents, and student affairs professionals?to help them better understand and respond to the unique needs of immigrant student populations. This work includes policy recommendations, convening stakeholder meetings, and supporting the implementation of campus-based initiatives that improve access to education, mental health resources, legal support, and financial aid. Community Events and Cultural Engagement In partnership with the Los Angeles City Council and the Office of the Mayor, the U.S. Africa Institute has led and supported numerous African immigrant-focused community events that celebrate cultural heritage and promote civic participation. Major initiatives include the annual Africa Day celebration, Black History Month programming, and a variety of local cultural festivals and forums designed to build community cohesion and elevate the voices of African diaspora communities in Southern California. These events serve as a platform to recognize the contributions of African immigrants to the city?s social, cultural, and economic life, while also providing opportunities for engagement with local policymakers and civic leaders. University Partnership Initiatives The U.S. Africa Institute leverages its expansive network of U.S. and African higher education institutions to facilitate academic collaboration, knowledge exchange, and institutional development. Through formal partnerships, the Institute supports bilateral student and faculty exchange programs, joint research initiatives, curriculum co-development, and capacity-building efforts. These initiatives are designed to promote global learning, foster long-term relationships between universities, and strengthen educational ties between the United States and African nations. The Institute also works to identify and align funding opportunities, coordinate international fellowships, and convene cross-border academic dialogues to address shared challenges in education, public policy, and community development. | $0 | $0 |
