“In 2022, we pre-purchased 5,000 stainless steel trays for placement at future public school sites, at slightly less than $8.00 per tray. In 2023, our subsidy offering to schools was capped at a maximum of $5.00 per item. We created a bit of an accounting headache for ourselves, as the original intent was to have the schools pay the manufacturer/supplier for the amount above $5.00 per item. Instead, our pre-purchase meant that two subsidized school districts (Alameda CA and Mansfield CT) had to reimburse us after-the-fact. Alameda sent us $8,736 for its >$5.00/item share of 3,200 trays. Mansfield sent us $4,227 for its share of 400 trays and some shipping costs. We won't be doing it this way again in the future, as we have eliminated our per-item subsidy cap, and we don't need more accounting headaches.”
