Profile

The Lever Foundation Growth Fund is a 501(c)3 charitable organization, whose purpose is to support the charitable mission of Lever Foundation (and other charities that share its mission) to prevent animal suffering by promoting healthy, humane and sustainable food choices. One effective way to create a more humane food system is to support and empower entrepreneurs and startup companies who are creating alternative protein products-foods that replace conventional animal protein on consumers' plates with plant-based proteins or other proteins produced without the need to raise and slaughter live animals. By helping entrepreneurs launch companies in this sector, and by helping early stage startups that would not otherwise be able to attractive commercial funding in this sector grow, the Fund can help shift a portion of protein production and consumption to food products that do not cause animal suffering.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6

Yes, the Organization has members.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A

Yes, members have the right to appoint one or more members of the governing body (the board of directors).

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The 990 form and schedules are compiled by an independent CPA, and reviewed by all board members to ensure information is accurate prior to submission.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Lever Foundation Growth Fund has a thorough written conflict of interest policy that directors sign annually. All persons having a conflict or potential conflict are required to disclose such to the rest of the Board for their review and consideration. Compliance is enforced by the Board, which reviews all potential conflicts of interest, and persons with a conflict of interest abstain from discussions relating to transactions or arrangements that involve or may involve actual or potential conflicts of interest. The potential existence of conflicts is considered when each Board discussion and vote is held and also reviewed once annually when the annual conflict of interest policy is re-signed.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

Although no Officers or Key Employees were paid in 2024, the process is in place. The process for determining compensation for Officers, Directors and Key Employees, is considering comparability with other positions of this stature, and then being reviewed and approved by independent members of the board.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Members of the public may contact Lever Foundation Growth Fund at 242 Elizabeth Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601, or by phone (717)584-1805, to request to view these documents.

IRS990ScheduleI/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Lever Foundation Growth Fund is set up as a 509a3 Type I supporting organization, and Lever Foundation is the foundation that Lever Foundation Growth Fund supports. They are the only organization that the Fund plans to grant money to, and thus there are no procedures set up to monitor them. They have the same board and director, who are well aware of whom is being granted money and for what purpose.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Yes, the Organization has members.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1Yes, members have the right to appoint one or more members of the governing body (the board of directors).
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2The 990 form and schedules are compiled by an independent CPA, and reviewed by all board members to ensure information is accurate prior to submission.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3Lever Foundation Growth Fund has a thorough written conflict of interest policy that directors sign annually.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4Although no Officers or Key Employees were paid in 2024, the process is in place. The process for determining compensation for Officers, Directors and Key Employees, is considering comparability with other positions of this stature, and then being reviewed and approved by independent members of the board.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt5Lever Foundation Growth Fund's governing documents, conflict of interest policy and financial statements are available to the public upon request. Members of the public may contact Lever Foundation Growth Fund at 242 Elizabeth Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601, or by phone (717)584-1805, to request to view these documents.
