New Mexico High School Coaches Association

“Nmhsca has memberships as follows: -regular members are athletic coaches and athletic directors of elementary,middle school and high schools in the state of new mexico. -student members are undergraduates that are seeking a career in the profession of athletic coaching. A student member will have voting privileges but may not hold office. -associate members are those who have an interest in furthering the objectives of the association, but assoicate members shall not be coaches or athletic directors residing within the state of new mexico. Associate memberships shall be approved by the board of directors and such members are not eligible to vote or hold office. 10 directors, two from each region, are elected at the regional meetings of members held at coaches clinics each year. Election of the regional directors are made by members of the association who coach in each respective region (nw, ne, sw, se and central). Candidates are members of the association and employed as an athletic coach. Directors also consist of the president, president elect/vice president, and the immediate past president. Additionally, there is one director appointed by the president of the association, one director appointed by the president of the new mexico high school athletic directors association and one director appointed by the executive director of the new mexico activities association.”

“The president of the association appoints one member of the association to the board of directors. -the president of the new mexico high school athletic director's association appoints one member of the board to a one-year term. -the executive director of the new mexico activities association appoints one member to the board of directors to a one-year term. -should a board member elected from a region require replacement, he/she is replaced and his term completed by a coach from that region appointed by the president of the association.”

“The association's accountant and president review the form 990 in detail prior to the filing of the form. Upon their approval, the form is made available to the board at the association's headquarters.”

“The association has a written contract with the president of the organization. As part of the contract process, the amount of compensation paid to like organizations as well as new mexico public schools is reviewed. The contract is approved by the full board prior to its execution.”

“Nmhsca has no other officers or key employees. If such positions were created, compensation would be subject to the formal budget process, which includes a review of comparability data and approval by the full board. All budget decisions are contemporaneously documented.”

“To help maintain the highest possible standards in athletics and the coaching profession and to work together for the improvement of conditions in new mexico high school athletics by: -fostering the knowledge of sports skills, the psychology of coaching, ethics of coaching and sportsmanship by conducting coaching schools and by offering the training coaches need to become licensed -fostering the study of physical education and encouraging the development of young coaches -supporting activities that will help provide higher education opportunity for the youth of new mexico -encouraging research and preparation of publications devoted to enhancing the skills of coaches in new mexico”
