“All public school boards of education in the state of new mexico may become member boards of the new mexico school boards association. Voting members are the individual members of the local member boards.”

“Members of the executive board are determined via election by the full mem bership of the new mexico school boards association.”

“A copy of the form 990 is provided to the executive board prior to filing. The executive director and finance director perform a thorough review.”

“Each member of the nmsba board of directors reviews and signs our conflict of interest policy on an annual basis. In addition, the executive director and finance director regularly and consistently monitor compliance. If new members of the board of directors are appointed or elected a board orientation session which includes the conflict of interest policy provisions.”

“In setting the salary of the executive director the board of directors took into consideration data prepared by the national school boards association which contains the salaries of all school board association executive directors in the country. More specifically the boards took into account the salaries of similar sized associations. Any increases granted subsequently are based on funding availability and reasonable recommendations of the executive board.”

“If a request is made to review the organizations governing documents, conflict of interest policy or financial statements the association schedules a time for the inquisitor to view the documents in the office.”

“The following is a list of nmsba's major accomplishments and activities this year in furtherance of our mission, goals and objectives. Executive board & board of directors --held four (4) nmsba executive board and board of directors meetings to conduct association business and address organizational and policy issues. (june 1, 2023; july 13, 2023; november 30, 2023; and february 1, 2024) and one special meeting on april 11, 2024. --between meetings provided information to the executive board and board of directors on key issues facing school boards. --implemented all actions approved by the executive board, board of directors and delegate assembly. --sent out informative email updates on breaking education issues, legislative and congressional developments, and items of interest to the executive board and board of directors. --along with the executive board, attended and represented nmsba at several nsba conferences including the 2023 summer leadership seminar in salt lake city, utah; 2023 western region western region meeting in omaha, nebraska, 2023 advocacy institute in washington, d.c and 2024 delegate assembly/annual conference in new orleans, louisiana. New and expanded programs/activities --continued our advocacy campaign resource page on our webpage which provides resource materials for school boards to use in establishing local campaigns to get the good news out about public schools. --conducted our "school board appreciation day" at the capitol and throughout the state during the 2024 legislative session. Many dignitaries and legislators voiced their support for our legislative priorities and drew attention to the important role school board members play in public education and the many good things happening in public schools. --continued expansion of our media activities by issuing news releases on key association activities including, conferences, promotions, school board member recognition awards, student achievement and scholarship awards and special school board recognition awards. --responded to requests from the media for information and comment on educational and school board issues and commented formally on proposed education reform initiatives. --continued the nmsba scholarship program, issued guidelines, nomination forms and selection procedures for nmsba's 2024 scholarship program. The board of directors set aside 30,000 for this year's awards which will be ratified at the may 30th board of directors meeting and announced at the 2024 school law conference. --continued to expand our legislative strategies and advocated for passage and implementation of the 2024 nmsba legislative program. --along with our legislative liaison, attended numerous committee hearings, voiced our position on over a hundred legislative proposals and advocated for increased public school salaries, funding above the line, local decision making, and no unfunded mandates. --joined legislative lobbying efforts with nmcel and superintendents association to prioritize local decision making, sufficient funding, salary increases and above the line funding for public schools. --in cooperation with ces-new mexicoa and the nmsba work group, planned and continued implementation of a comprehensive new member training program which provides training to newly elected board members via live in person sessions prior to each of our conferences and supplemental online training. --provided online board training for nmsba and conducted several sessions focused on school board self-evaluation, strategic planning, superintendent search, and superintendent evaluation processes. --our nmsba superintendent search cadre conducted several searches and continues with five veteran superintendents. --we continue to assist boards by posting superintendent vacancies on our website and have joined nsba's national association of superintendent searchers which allows us to post vacancies at the national level. --continued our participation with presentation at the nm”
