DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Rebound Liberia Summer LeadHers Program: a three-week enrichment program that incorporates computer training, personal development workshops, and college and career exploration. Thirty high school girls aged 14 to 19 were selected to participate in the program from August 2nd to 20th, 2021. Through the computer training program, participants strengthened their digital skills through an introduction to the Microsoft office suite. We worked with girls with little to no knowledge of Ms suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. At the end of the program, they were able to navigate these platforms deftly. The program also helped increase exposure to personal development through workshops that focus on sexual reproductive health, financial literacy, drug and substance abuse, public speaking, etc. Liberia youth are an especially vulnerable population due to the growing drug epidemic, increasing youth unemployment, and increased exposure to sexual exposure. Through the LeadHers program, we ensured that we equipped our participants with vital knowledge that would help them become more self-aware and be able to advocate for themselves. Lastly, program participants were exposed to post-secondary opportunities through college tours and entrepreneurship panels. They also got the chance to propose their business ideas and pitch them in the Rebound Liberia's Shark Tank competition to current business owners in Liberia. The competition winners received a seed funding of $300 to potentially lay the foundation for their business idea.$3,550$9,738
Annual Rebound Liberia Classic - The Annual Rebound Liberia Classic uses the sport of basketball to bring together more than 120 girls from different high schools as a means for community engagement and to showcase some of the female basketball talents in Liberia. The tournament is an avenue to celebrate young women and lay the foundation for years of successful community engagement. The classic took place from December 10 to 12th, 2021, at the YMCA Liberia. The first day of the program was a personal development workshop, where guest speakers came to enlighten the participants about sportswomanship and the importance of education and female empowerment. On the 11th and 12th of December were the basketball tournaments involving eight high school teams that competed for the grand prize of $250. The first and second runners-up were awarded $150 and $100, respectively. The awards were given to the winning schools as in-kind donations that provided basketball and school supplies for girls on the basketball team.$6,750$3,831
Rebound Liberia Academy: The Rebound Liberia Academy is a skill-intensive after-school basketball program to help over 40 high school girls improve their basketball skills. It was a two-month-long program that ran every Friday, from February 8th to April 5th, 2021. The sessions are filled with skill drills and personal development discussions every last Friday. At the end of the program, a mini-tournament was held amongst the participants to promote healthy competition and camaraderie.$0$780
