Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Facilitate early intervention strategies for social and behavioral development that will help prepare children and parents in becoming healthier, wholesome families and productive citizens within the community.

The Youth Enrichment Learning Center, Inc. (YELC) is an invaluable year-round educational facility that serves children aged 5 to 18 from low to middle-income families. Recognizing these children's unique challenges, YELC is committed to enhancing their proficiency in critical academic subjects, helping them develop into exceptional students. The center operates two primary programs: the Enrichment & Restoration After School program and the SANDALS Academic Recreation Summer Camp. These programs are meticulously designed to bolster essential Math, Reading, English Language Arts, and Science skills. The after-school program provides a structured environment where students can receive additional academic support, while the summer camp offers a dynamic and engaging atmosphere for learning during the break. YELC aims to empower students with the academic knowledge and tools necessary to thrive by addressing educational gaps. In addition to academic development, YELC strongly emphasizes beh

YELC has set ambitious goals for the upcoming academic year, focusing on significant enhancements in the educational performance of its students, particularly in Math and Reading. Recent analysis of the Winter MAP scores indicates that a promising trend is emerging, with over 50% of participants projected to achieve average or above-average scores. This statistic reflects the effectiveness of the tutorial programs in place, which are designed to address the specific needs of students and foster an environment conducive to learning and growth. In addition to academic achievements, YELC recognizes the importance of developing social skills and boosting self-esteem among its students. The center is committed to creating a supportive atmosphere where students feel empowered to overcome challenges and succeed in and out of the classroom. By focusing on social behavior and interpersonal skills, YELC aims to cultivate a new generation of learners who excel academically and serve as ambassadors for educational success within their communities. The center has implemented a comprehensive action plan tailored to each student's needs to facilitate these improvements. This plan includes targeted interventions based on the data collected from MAP Growth Test results and ongoing assessments of students' progress in various subjects. The tutorial programs are designed to encourage consistent attendance, with the expectation that students who commit to attending at least three times a week will experience higher growth percentiles, particularly in Math and Reading. While the center is still awaiting complete MAP Growth Test results for all students, preliminary data suggests that many are excelling in certain areas while requiring additional support in others. For example, the analysis of Winter MAP scores reveals that in Math, 36.4% of students fall into the low achievement category, while 27.3% are classified as low average achievement. In Reading, the numbers are similar, with 45.5% of students achieving low average and 27.3% achieving low scores. The Language Usage assessment, limited to grades 2-5, shows a similar trend. 45.5% of students perform at a low achievement level, while 27.3% fall into the low average category. However, incomplete submissions for Language Usage assessments have made evaluating student performance in this area challenging. We have included our Tutorial Report to showcase the progress made while participating in our program. This report highlights students who come from Public Housing. Overall, YELC remains dedicated to monitoring student progress closely and adjusting its strategies as necessary to ensure that each child receives the support they need to thrive. This commitment to personalized education and holistic development is central to YELC's mission of fostering academic excellence and social responsibility among its students.$1,500$0
