Additional Explanations

Form 990

Reasonable causeelectronic filing. The organization changed its tax year from a calendar year ending 12/31 to a fiscal year ending 8/31 in 2023. A short-period return (1/01/20238/31/2023) was filed, and the first full fiscal-year return for 9/01/20238/31/2024 was prepared and submitted electronically. That submission was rejected by the irs modernized e-file system (code r0000-004-01) due to a transmission schema mismatch related to the year-change and software form-year settings. To ensure the return would not be considered late while we resolved the technical issue, the organization timely submitted a paper-filed copy of the return. Upon receipt of irs correspondence instructing electronic resubmission, the organization promptly rebuilt the return in the correct form-year module and is now electronically filing this complete return. Additional pre- filing checks have been implemented to verify schema/version and return type before transmission. Accordingly, the initial failure to e-file was due to reasonable cause and not willful neglect.
