| Building Integrated Systems of Care, Learning, and Dignity in Musanze District In 2025, Move Up Global continued to deepen its mission of advancing health, education, and social dignity for children and families in Musanze District, Rwanda. Guided by the Knot (Ipfundo) Framework, our work focused on strengthening the everyday connections between schools, families, community health workers, and health facilities-transforming schools into hubs of learning, care, and opportunity. The Knot (Ipfundo) Framework: Integration in Action At the heart of Move Up Global's work is the Knot (Ipfundo) Framework-an integrated, community-rooted model that links education and health systems to address the complex realities facing children and families. In 2025, Ireme, our in-country implementation partner implemented the Ipfundo framework across Nyabirehe, Rwinzovu, and Gatovu schools, directly serving approximately 4,330 students, their families, and teachers. Education: Expanding Opportunity and Excellence Education programs reached 5,682 children in 2025, with major milestones including the selection of a new Mount Muhabura Scholarship cohort, expanded competency-based curriculum training, and strengthened tutoring and academic support. The reopening of an Early Childhood Development (ECD) center and the construction of a new soccer field at Nyabirehe Primary School created joyful, supportive environments for learning and play. Teachers were honored during a sector-wide Teacher's Day celebration recognizing 341 educators, and Nyabirehe School celebrated excellence as its top four students were recognized for outstanding performance on the 2024/2025 National Exams. Community Engagement: Ownership and Collective Action Community ownership remained a defining feature of Move Up Global's work. In 2025, approximately 6,668 community members contributed labor and time to build a joyful play space at Nyabirehe School. This collective effort reflected deep partnership and shared responsibility for children's well-being and school development. ICT, Data, and Community-Defined Quality Improvement Digital capacity building expanded access to essential ICT skills for community members, teachers, and students, including Microsoft Office, Google Apps, photography, videography, graphic design, and filmmaking. Participants reported increased confidence, efficiency, and engagement in classrooms and community activities. We strengthened its analytics capacity, routinely collecting and visualizing program data to inform decision-making. Community-Defined Quality Improvement (CD-QI) was further institutionalized, applying tools such as root cause analysis, fishbone diagrams, driver diagrams, and flow charts. These methods were actively used during the Education Retreat to analyze and address drivers of student performance. Health: Prevention, Access, and Follow-Up Care Health programs continued to integrate prevention, screening, and follow-up care within school and community settings. * Clean water access reached approximately 984 community members and 3,378 students through water filter distribution, with planned expansion in 2026. * 9,990 students across eight schools and three ECD centers received new shoes, supporting dignity, attendance, and foot health. * The Health Passport pilot at Nyabirehe trained CHWs, parents, and teachers, reaching 35 students, 100% of whom scored above 80% on post-assessments. Plans are underway to scale to 2,362 students in 2026. * 2,500 students received hygiene and water treatment education. * 1,909 students were screened for NTDs and malnutrition, with targeted follow-up through 216 home visits. Sexual and reproductive health education reached multiple cohorts at Rwinzovu School, addressing puberty, menstruation, hygiene, gender-based violence, and family planning. Community theater and health club activities further promoted ECD and GBV prevention. Nutrition, Food Security, and Hygiene: Social Entrepreneurship in Practice Nutrition and food security efforts combined school-based production with community entrepreneurship: * 33,120 eggs were provided to 1,318 students through chicken farming initiatives. * Three school gardens yielded 1,820 kg of produce, supporting over 608,000 meals. * Umwete expanded to Gatovu with new gardens and seedlings, alongside 18 community kitchen gardens. * Six vulnerable families received sheep, benefiting 31 individuals. * Hygiene promotion included the production of 2,300 bars of soap by teachers and community members. Innovation, Research, and Fellowship The Innovation Council continued to drive research, communications, fundraising, and fellowship coordination. Research abstracts were accepted for presentation at the upcoming CUGH conference, and ongoing studies advanced learning on community health workers, water filters, and school-based health models. | $115,893 | $115,893 |
