Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To bring STEM to Montana Flathead Valley Schools by giving students the tools to become innovative in science, technology, engineering and math.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
The Robotics program seeks to train the students in the critical and logical thinking processes required for software computer coding and the control of robotic systems. Elementary students will learn the capabilities of robotic systems and learn how to program them to do basic maneuvers and actions. Middle school students will use math and geometry to program the robot to perform more complex maneuvers and actions. Learning how to simplify and code more efficient programs will be emphasized. 148 students from 3 schools participated this year. Additional schools have expressed interest in participating next year.$0$5,993
One of our key programs is our STEM Resource Library and teaching support available to all the schools we support. The library has resources for teacher education as well as classroom lab materials and books they can use to give the students hands-on lab experience in applying and/or proving the concepts they have learned during classroom lectures. The teachers can schedule checking out the materials according to their curriculum. The resources are available to grades 1 - 12 teachers. We also provide assistance to the teacher in giving class lectures on the material while also educating the teacher so they can do it themselves in subsequent classes. This resource has been well received and we are continuing to expand it accordingly to include more subjects as well as a greater number of lab materials to handle multiple school simultaneous use. The Library currently supports over 1,300 students. The library also has lots of science demonstration equipment that is used to demonstrate important elements of physics and chemistry to classes grades 1 - 12. Physics topics covered in the labs and demonstrations include thermodynamics, aerodynamics, states of matter, cryogenics, astronomy, electricity & magnetism, electrostatics, lightning, forces of motion, gravity, light & sound waves, and optics.$0$5,528
We support 12 schools districts with a physics of flight and engineering aerospace principals for aircraft and rockets. Over 640 students take part in this program where we supply all the materials required for the construction of large water bottle rockets that are tested and improved according to the engineering process. The culmination of their work is a competition between all of the schools at the Flathead Valley Rocket Rally which is an event organized by this non-profit. The schools compete for 1st - 3rd place medals in 5 categories of performance and design. Since we have a significant number of fiscally challenged rural schools with fiscally challenged students, we provide bus transportation, event insurance, shelter, materials and lunch to all participating students at the rally.$0$5,287
