“All directors, officers, and key employees have a business relationship with each other through their involvement with tricore reference laboratories and tricore laboratory services corporation, which are both related organizations.”
“Tricore reference laboratories (trl) acts as agent for tricore inc. Under written agreement, trl may provide management, administrative resources and shared employees with tricore inc., which may accept such services. Accordingly, the organization, as principal, pays trl, as agent, specific and allocated expenses. All of the officers listed on form 990, part vii, section a, were compensated by trl in the amounts shown on that schedule.”
“The university of new mexico hospital (unmh), a hospital owned and operated by the university of new mexico, and presbyterian, a tax-exempt organization under irc section 501(c)(3), are equal voting members of tricore, inc.”
“Presbyterian and unmh effectively control tricore, inc. Through their respective rights to appoint an equal number of directors to the corporation's board of directors.”
“The officers are subject to an authority matrix (written policy), which is reviewed annually and updated if necessary. Certain actions of the officers are subject to board approval and are presented at each board meeting. The board is composed of 4 individuals from each of the original members (unmh and presbyterian health services).”
“The form 990 and supporting schedules are delivered to the finance committee, as appointed by the board of directors, immediately preceding filing, for review and discussion. The finance committee then forwards a copy of the form 990 to board members for review and discussion.”
“The conflict of interest (coi) statement is distributed annually to the officers, board members, and board subcommittee members. The ceo's administrative assistant ensures that the officers, board members, and subcommittee members return their signed coi statement timely for review by the chief people officer (cpo). If there is a coi stated, the cpo advises the board of directors. The board then determines on a case-by-case basis if the member is disallowed from voting on the matter involved. Copies of the signed coi statements are maintained in the board files.”
“Ceo compensation determinations and reviews are independently performed by the chairman of the board of directors, the board of directors, and the chief people officer. Deliberations and decisions are based upon the advice of an independent consultant(s) as well as external compensation surveys. The organization maintains contemporaneous documentation of all deliberations and decisions. All other officer, key employee and management compensation determinations are performed in house. Approval is required by the ceo and/or executive management team and human capital management (hcm). The compensation determinations are analyzed against salary sources. These salary sources may include, but are not limited to, comparable data from other health-care organizations, department of labor studies, and specialized compensation surveys. The pay philosophy of the organization is to have compensation that is market-driven. The organization maintains contemporaneous documentation of all compensation decisions. This occurs as part of the regular recruiting and hiring processes. The overall compensation structure was last reviewed in 2025 and will be reviewed on an annual basis.”
“The governing documents and financial statements are available on the new mexico attorney general's website. The conflict of interest policy is not available to the public.”
“Officers and employees receive compensation from a related organization. The filing organization then reimburses the related organization for its portion of the salaries and payroll expenses. Accordingly, although the filing organization does not issue forms w-2, it does report the reimbursed salaries and related payroll expenses on form 990, part ix, statement of functional expenses.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | PUBLIC HEALTH: TRICORE, INC. CONTRIBUTES TO THE BETTERMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH IN NEW MEXICO IN SEVERAL WAYS:- MORE EXPEDIENT TESTING: TRICORE INC. PROVIDES DIAGNOSTIC TESTING SERVICES ACROSS MOST OF NEW MEXICO, AND IS ABLE TO TEST MORE THAN 98% OF THE SPECIMENS IT RECEIVES AT ITS FACILITIES, UNLIKE OTHER LABORATORIES IN NEW MEXICO. TRICORE PROVIDES SAME-DAY OR EARLY-NEXT-DAY RESULTS TO PHYSICIANS, SO THAT THERAPIES AND TREATMENTS MAY BEGIN IMMEDIATELY FOR NEW MEXICO PATIENTS. DUE TO THE VOLUME OF TESTING, TRICORE CAN PROVIDE ESOTERIC TESTING THAT IS NOT FEASIBLE FOR OTHER LABS TO PROVIDE. THIS ALLOWS TRICORE TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE LABORATORY SERVICES TO THE UNDERSERVED POPULATION IN THE STATE.- UNDERSERVED AREAS: ALMOST ALL OF NEW MEXICO IS CLASSIFIED AS A MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED AREA BY THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES. TRICORE'S COVERAGE AREA ENCOMPASSES MUCH OF NEW MEXICO, PROVIDING MUCH-NEEDED TESTING SERVICES TO LOCATIONS DEEMED MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED BY FEDERAL OFFICIALS.- PATIENT-CENTERED DATABASE: TRICORE HAS DEVELOPED A DATABASE THAT ALLOWS PROVIDERS TO VIEW PATIENT LAB TESTS OUTSIDE THEIR PARTICULAR ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORD (EMR), SO THAT LAB TESTS ORDERED BY OTHER PROVIDERS CAN BE SEEN. THIS ADVANCEMENT RESULTS IN FEWER WASTED DUPLICATE LAB TESTS BEING ORDERED AND IS ESPECIALLY APPRECIATED BY SPECIALISTS WHO OFTEN ONLY SEE A PATIENT AFTER SEVERAL OTHER PROVIDERS HAVE EXAMINED THEM AND ORDERED LAB TESTS.- STATE REPORTING: ABOUT 70% OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES THAT ARE MANDATED TO BE REPORTED TO THE NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH ARE FROM TESTS PERFORMED BY TRICORE. THERE IS A LIST OF 30 INFECTIOUS DISEASES THAT MUST BE REPORTED TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. WHEN A SPECIMEN HAS TESTED POSITIVE FOR ONE OF THESE DISEASES AT A TRICORE FACILITY, TRICORE IMMEDIATELY REPORTS THE INCIDENT TO THE STATE. TRICORE'S REPORT OCCURS MUCH MORE QUICKLY THAN WHEN PHYSICIANS (RECEIVING REPORTS FROM OTHER LABS) REPORT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. THIS SPEED IN REPORTING ENHANCES THE PROTECTION OF PUBLIC HEALTH, BY INFORMING THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH MORE QUICKLY ABOUT POSSIBLE OUTBREAKS OF DISEASES OR OTHER ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE TRACKED BY PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICERS. |
