“Program Service Accomplishments:Oasis Teens Environmental:The Oasis Teens Environmental program at The Urban Oasis beautifies and enhances our communitys green space by providing stipends to the youth of the community to cultivate and maintain outdoor gathering sites for community use. The Oasis Teens Environmental Program began in 2020 with 3 local teenagers and 2 supervisors. This inaugural team did a phenomenal job of caring for the community. Their presence and efforts in picking up trash, mowing lawns, and planting produce for the community were so noticed that by the second session, seven more local teenagers joined the team. The program was able to expand and care for larger portions of the community. By the end of the third session, the 10 member team grew to 15 members, and the program had helped to overhaul 3 vacant lots for community use, mowed over 16 homes that were once vacant and being prepared for homeownership in the Panway and Walbrook communities (in collaboration with Neighborhood Housing Services of Baltimore), planted over 30 trees in Hanlon Park, and visited Washington DC and New York City to experience what other cities have done with their community green spaces. For FY25, The Oasis Teens Environmental Program provided stipends of $15 per hour, 5 hours per week for up to 14 teenagers between the ages of 14 and 19, and $20 per hour for up to 5 supervisors to continue the environmental work for the community. Through the Oasis Teens Environmental program, sites which were once vacant, blighted, and overgrown, were transformed into safe and beautiful community gathering areas that can be used to accommodate programming. As the OTE program grows, the teens have been able to cultivate more space that has helped to transform our community. They transformed a rat-infested alleyway into an outdoor library with path lights and planter benches. They also transformed an area with dilapidated garages into a community walking garden filled with plants, benches, and free WiFi. They also worked in partnership with Westside OpenWorks where they learned entrepreneurial skills along with sewing techniques, paper-making, and quilting. The teens created their own tote bags and seed paper, and placed them on display at a showcase at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). The items will be placed in an online shop at The Urban Oasis for people to purchase to support the work of the teens and help fund their programming. The Oasis Teens Environmental programs impact in this community is not only transformative, but will also help to usher in a new generation of environmentally conscious leaders.The Lot at The Urban Oasis:We were awarded two design awards from the American Institute of Architects for our designs for The Lot at The Urban Oasis for both the Maryland and Baltimore awards.Races For The Oasis:Our first annual Races For The Oasis 5k & 1-Mile Community Run/Walk through the Maryland Zoo was a huge success! We encouraged residents in our community to utilize the amazing amenities we have right here in our neighborhood, including the zoo, which many residents feel they dont have access to. We used a local print shop, Citywide Youth Development, to create t-shirts for each of the participants and volunteers. Our partners at Hunger Free Zone brought the free vegan food truck so each participant could get a drink and a meal after the completion of the race. We were especially proud of how inclusive this event was. The final person to cross the finish line was an amputee who completed the entire 5k course. We all celebrated his victory. We worked with Blue Cheetah Sports Timing for registration and timing. Each participant was able to receive a complimentary ticket to The Maryland Zoo for the day.There were approximately 10 volunteers and 1Love To Life/ Room For Us:We hosted our first Alley Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony where we officially opened our alley corridor for public use. | IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 6 | Program Service Accomplishments:Oasis Teens Environmental:The Oasis Teens Environmental program at The Urban Oasis beautifies and enhances our communitys green space by providing stipends to the youth of the community to cultivate and maintain outdoor gathering sites for community use. The Oasis Teens Environmental Program began in 2020 with 3 local teenagers and 2 supervisors. This inaugural team did a phenomenal job of caring for the community. Their presence and efforts in picking up trash, mowing lawns, and planting produce for the community were so noticed that by the second session, seven more local teenagers joined the team. The program was able to expand and care for larger portions of the community. By the end of the third session, the 10 member team grew to 15 members, and the program had helped to overhaul 3 vacant lots for community use, mowed over 16 homes that were once vacant and being prepared for homeownership in the Panway and Walbrook communities (in collaboration with Neighborhood Housing Services of Baltimore), planted over 30 trees in Hanlon Park, and visited Washington DC and New York City to experience what other cities have done with their community green spaces. For FY25, The Oasis Teens Environmental Program provided stipends of $15 per hour, 5 hours per week for up to 14 teenagers between the ages of 14 and 19, and $20 per hour for up to 5 supervisors to continue the environmental work for the community. Through the Oasis Teens Environmental program, sites which were once vacant, blighted, and overgrown, were transformed into safe and beautiful community gathering areas that can be used to accommodate programming. As the OTE program grows, the teens have been able to cultivate more space that has helped to transform our community. They transformed a rat-infested alleyway into an outdoor library with path lights and planter benches. They also transformed an area with dilapidated garages into a community walking garden filled with plants, benches, and free WiFi. They also worked in partnership with Westside OpenWorks where they learned entrepreneurial skills along with sewing techniques, paper-making, and quilting. The teens created their own tote bags and seed paper, and placed them on display at a showcase at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). The items will be placed in an online shop at The Urban Oasis for people to purchase to support the work of the teens and help fund their programming. The Oasis Teens Environmental programs impact in this community is not only transformative, but will also help to usher in a new generation of environmentally conscious leaders.The Lot at The Urban Oasis:We were awarded two design awards from the American Institute of Architects for our designs for The Lot at The Urban Oasis for both the Maryland and Baltimore awards.Races For The Oasis:Our first annual Races For The Oasis 5k & 1-Mile Community Run/Walk through the Maryland Zoo was a huge success! We encouraged residents in our community to utilize the amazing amenities we have right here in our neighborhood, including the zoo, which many residents feel they dont have access to. We used a local print shop, Citywide Youth Development, to create t-shirts for each of the participants and volunteers. Our partners at Hunger Free Zone brought the free vegan food truck so each participant could get a drink and a meal after the completion of the race. We were especially proud of how inclusive this event was. The final person to cross the finish line was an amputee who completed the entire 5k course. We all celebrated his victory. We worked with Blue Cheetah Sports Timing for registration and timing.
