“Youth life skills academy (ylsa) is dedicated to meeting youth in their circumstances and educate, inspire, and empower them to move in the direction of their dreams. Our mission is to create a positive structured learning environment with an emphasis on improving life skills through sports and basketball. We provide positive and measurable life skills through experiencing our structured events that occur during breaks throughout the k-12 school calendar.”

“Youth life skills academy general programming supports a wednesday basketball outreach program in the aloha area. This event is ongoing and teaches teamwork and interdependence in a competitive environment. The capacity building component of our grants is allowing us to develop pilot programs. One example of our "pilot" programs is our after school program at templeton elementary school, where we teach a "growth mindset" program. This program teaches students to address challenges and barriers with confidence. In 2023, approximately 170 children participated in these events.”

“The community violence intervention grant is to provide pro social activities for at risk and marginalized communities. We provide sponsorships for these out of school events 4 times a year, when the school calendar has breaks. These academy experiences are 3 day events that provide life skill training, fitness and wellness education. Additionally, we provide food and etiquette training. This grant also supports 2 "business of sport" field trips to the moda center. 22,686 of the grant money received was spent for these purposes in 2023, and the remaining 102,314 is restricted for health, wellness, and violence prevention uses. In 2023, approximately 260 children participated in these events.”
