EXEMPT PURPOSE - PROVIDE A SAFE PLACE FOR CHILDREN THROUGH EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, ADVOCACY AND MENTORING Achievements - The Summer Program hosted youth events for 8 weeks, 4 nights a week, for about 150 youth, ages 3 to 17, for the summer and almost 40 volunteers from churches, neighborhoods, and community partners. Staffing consisted of one full time staff, the ED, and two seasonal staff members, a Curriculum Coordinator and Summer Program Coordinator. The Summer Program Coordinator position was added after WCC saw record-high youth numbers in 2021. Summer programming consisted of facilitating multiple activities for youth in Kentwood, MI, including sports activities, arts and crafts, outdoor games, board games, and daily lessons focused on character traits. WCC also hosted weekly community dinners for residents, with food donated and served by local churches, businesses, and foundations. Achievements Woodfield Club was a school-year program - September 2022 to May 2023, serving almost 70 youth during the school year. Programming was supported by one full time staff, the ED, and 15 volunteers from community partners. Youth participated in activities such as sports, games, arts and crafts, eating dinner together, and receiving assistance with homework from volunteers. Special activities such as holiday parties were planned and coordinated to provide additional programming for resident families. Volunteers and staff attended sporting events and school events for middle and high school students during the year. Staff strengthened its partnership with Kentwood Public Schools by serving on two committees to discuss the needs of students and families in the district. Achievements: WCC created a new program called Hope and a Future, which focused on the individual career coaching of 4 high school seniors interested in pursuing post-secondary education. A pilot of this program began in September of 2022, pairing up these students with WCC mentors, assisting them with college applications, FAFSA, scholarships, etc. 100% of the seniors graduated from high school, all of them being the first in their families to earn a high school diploma. 3 of the 4 seniors enrolled at a 4-year institution, and 1 of the seniors pursued the military as a post-secondary career path. Because of this pilot program, WCC will seek future funding to assist the upcoming seniors with post-secondary. WCC continued its partnership with The First Tee of West Michigan, providing golf lessons for about 25 youth in two formats: a 6 week summer session at a local golf course for elementary and middle school students, and the addition of a 6 week winter session. Golf coaches from this organization taught WCC youth the basics of golf and focused on character traits such as perseverance, team work, confidence, and excellence throughout the lessons. During the winter session, First Tee coaches hosted Homework and Hitting at WCC which included the addition of homework assistance.
