“As per the world patients alliance's arms and tobacco non-engagement policy, we are prohibited from receiving any funding or support from organizations associated with the arms or tobacco industries. During our due diligence review, it was identified that one of our donors has business involvement with these sectors. Consequently, in 2023, the payment received from from that donor was returned via check. We later discovered that the original check issued for the refund had been forged and cashed by an unidentified individual and never reached the intended recipient. Upon realizing this in 2024, a replacement check was promptly issued and sent. A formal police incident report regarding the forged cheque was also filed with the lower merion police department under incident no. Xxx-xx-xxxx.”
“Volunteers contributed their time and efforts to support our organization's growth, enhance regional networking, and advocate for the patient's cause.”
“Growth: the wpa, established in september 2020, is composed of 649 nonprofit organizations from 132 countries and has experienced rapid global growth. In 2024, 185 organizations joined as new members, further expanding its reach. By engaging patient groups across various regions, wpa has strengthened its presence in the international patient advocacy arena and enhanced its advocacy efforts. Communication with both the broader patient community and member groups is carried out through social media and email. This increased membership has boosted wpa's credibility with potential funders and policymakers worldwide, leading to greater funding and advocacy opportunities. In 2024, wpa successfully organized a largescale campaign for world patient safety day, involving approximately 600 events globally. Bursaries and grants were provided to member organizations in different countries to support local awareness initiatives. Wpa successfully convened the 2nd world patients conference in cape town under the theme "the role of the patient in a changing world- and received over 1,000 registrations from 124 countries. Wpa also organized the african regional meeting to strengthen collaboration, amplify the patient voice, and advance the equitable, patient-centered healthcare across the african continent. The wpa strengthened its global patient community through impactful awareness and education initiatives in 2024. The "heart of healthcare: celebrating our nurses" campaign united patients and stakeholders worldwide in honoring nurses and advocating for better support systems, fostering solidarity between patients and healthcare providers. Similarly, the launch of patient safety books for children, developed with the elsevier foundation, expanded wpa's outreach to families and schools, promoting early health literacy and a culture of safety among young audiences. Together, these initiatives deepened global engagement, empowered communities, and advanced wpa's mission of growing and supporting the international patient community.”

“Education: effectively addressing patient related issues requires meeting the needs of both the patient community and the general public. To this end, a membership survey was conducted in 2024 to assess the needs of patient organizations, allowing wpa to better align its work with the objectives of the global patient community. Based on the survey's findings, wpa actively engaged in educational and capacity building initiatives in collaboration with its members and partner organizations. Notably, wpa worked with leading international patient organizations like the world health organization (who), global self-care federation (gscf), international pharmaceutical federation (fip), world organization of family doctors (wonca), mexican network of patients for patient safety / national autonomous university of mexico (unam), pan american patients for patient safety network, international council of nurses (icn), healthywomen, atom coalition, bristol myers squibb (bms) and world medical association (wma), to organize events aimed at educating patients. In 2024, wpa also hosted the 2nd world patients conference in south africa, providing a platform for patients to exchange information, share experiences, learn from each other, and gain insights into current healthcare challenges and their solutions. During 2nd world patients conference wpa launched a series of "patient safety books for children" in partnership with the elsevier foundation, promoting safety awareness among children aged 6-12. Available in english and portuguese, the books advance early health literacy and extend wpa's educational reach to families and schools worldwide. Wpa also launched the global "heart of healthcare: celebrating our nurses" campaign to honor nurses' vital role and highlight workforce challenges such as burnout and shortages. Through webinars, educational tools, and advocacy outreach, the campaign promoted global action to support and retain the nursing workforce. Additionally, one of wpa's founding board members, jolanta bilinska organized and hosted a conference in lodz, poland to mark world patient safety day 2024. Moreover, wpa in collaboration with its member organization, alzheimer's pakistan celebrated world patient safety day 2024 with awareness seminars, community events, and walks across cities. | IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 1 | AS PER THE WORLD PATIENTS ALLIANCE'S ARMS AND TOBACCO NON-ENGAGEMENT POLICY, WE ARE PROHIBITED FROM RECEIVING ANY FUNDING OR SUPPORT FROM ORGANIZATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ARMS OR TOBACCO INDUSTRIES. XXX-XX-XXXX. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 2 | VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED THEIR TIME AND EFFORTS TO SUPPORT OUR ORGANIZATION'S GROWTH, ENHANCE REGIONAL NETWORKING, AND ADVOCATE FOR THE PATIENT'S CAUSE. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 3 | GROWTH: THE WPA, ESTABLISHED IN SEPTEMBER 2020, IS COMPOSED OF 649 NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS FROM 132 COUNTRIES AND HAS EXPERIENCED RAPID GLOBAL GROWTH. TOGETHER, THESE INITIATIVES DEEPENED GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT, EMPOWERED COMMUNITIES, AND ADVANCED WPA'S MISSION OF GROWING AND SUPPORTING THE INTERNATIONAL PATIENT COMMUNITY. |
