| 2019 Was the organizational year for Valdez Adventure Alliance. Business: Created Board of Directors, drafted By-Laws, hired a 6-month trial executive director who did not work out, but we have a great one since Oct, 2019. Incorporated as Alaska Business entity and got AK business license, obtained Valdez City business license. In July submitted 1023 and obtained 501c3. Set up checking account and savings account. Executed a buy out to obtain equipment, materials, and supplies. Negotiated and obtained Operating Permit from State of Alaska for Worthington Glacier SRS, Blueberry Lake Campground, Shoup Bay Cabins, Shoup Bay Trail. Set up reservation system. Using volunteer labor and equipment, materials, and supplies from buy out we were able to complete the following: Shoup Bay Trail 2019: In addition to ongoing clearing and leveling efforts, improvements in 2019 included: new entry sign, new paint on kiosk, new signage at kiosk, installation and stocking a dog-waste bag box, installation of a donation box, and providing tools for trail trimming that can be used by hikers. 14,000 served Ice Fest: During 2019 much work must be done to prepare for the Ice Climbing Festival in 2020. Alyeska grant was submitted and awarded $1,500 for use for youth clinics for 2020 Ice Climbing Festival. Work was done toward obtaining needed permits from DNR and DOT. People served won't show up until 2020. Blueberry Lake Campgrounds: 2019 Improvements made in 2019 included installing 2 more sets of toilet paper dispensers in each toilet, new wooden sign, new laminated signage, installation of 3 more large trash cans and trash service (in an effort to keep people from putting trash in the toilets). Opened to online reservations, took and uploaded individual photos for each site, wrote individual descriptions for each site, created a drone-photo map with sites marked. Completed winter prep. 1,423 served Cabins: 2019 clearing and maintenance. Set up on reservation system. 542 served Worthington Glacier SRS: 2019: Improvements made in 2019 included installing 2 more sets of toilet paper dispensers in each toilet, new laminated signage, installation of 3 more large trash cans and trash service (in an effort to keep people from putting trash in the toilets).
