Mission

Climate Emergency Fund is a non-profit, publicly supported corporation organized in Delaware on June 18, 2019 to fund and support individual activists and organizations working to educate the public on the threat of climate change and demand action from policy makers. The Organization began operations in 2019. It supports only nonviolent, legal activities that reinforce the goal of constructively building public pressure and demanding urgent action from governments and corporations to address the climate emergency.

Climate emergency fund supports other organizations and projects that educate the public about and alert them to the climate emergency and advocate for public policies and corporate actions to address the climate emergency.

The form 990 is compiled by tax accountants, reviewed by the executive director, the operations director and the board president and circulated to all members of the board of directors prior to filing.

Climate emergency fund has a conflict of interest policy that requires directors andemployees to disclose conflicts of interest. If a conflict of interest exists, directors are barred from voting on the conflicted issue.

A non-profit salary study was purchased, and executive directors' salary was compared to organizations of a similar size and structure. An HR consultant reviewed and approved, and the board discussed and approved compensation as part of an annual performance review.

Our process is to review comps for salaries, the board approves salary ranges for all positions. The executive director in consultation with the hr committee sets employee salaries. There were no key employees other than the executive director in 2024.

Part X : FIN48 Footnote

Part x,line 2: climate emergency fund is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code (the "code"), and is exempt from state income taxes under the comparable state tax code, as charitable organizations whereby only unrelated income, as defined by section 512(a)(1) of the code, is subject to federal income tax. The entity files an exempt organization return in the u.s. Federal jurisdiction and the state of california. The organization follows the accounting standard for contingencies in evaluating uncertain tax positions. The guidance prescribes recognition threshold principles for finanical statement recognition of tax positions taken or expected to be taken on a tax return that are not certain to be realized. No liability has been recognized by the organization for uncertain tax positions as of december 31, 2024.
