Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
This year we focused on expanding our DOE program offerings and taught Waikoloa and Waimea middle schools mostly. We created an outline for DOE educators to use to get their kids outdoors learning about the environment and having hands-on meaningful watershed educational experiences. We teamed up with the Koloko Cloud Forest Sanctuary and together we hosted 130 tenth graders from Nueva Private school in California. Each of the students took our coral reef 101 in-water snorkeling class and had a tour through the Koloko watershed on Hualalai with the sanctuary team. Our programs focus on teaching kids about the connection between the mountain and the sea. Our Maui programs continued and out outer island connections are growing.$0$619
Completed training for Coral Reef Rehabilitation Management through Ocean Quest Global. Provided multiple training programs for tourists and locals including Intro To Coral Reefs, Hawaiian Coral ID, Watershed Management, Snorkeling, and Scuba Diving courses both from shore and by boat. Hosted multiple beach clean-ups including World Ocean Day at Kawaihae Harbor with over 200 participants. Hosted a 6-week internship for two students through the Stemworks program working on a Social Media and reef safe sunscreen campaigns. Maintained social media posts, website presence, advertising, and marketing campaigns. Participated in the first-ever community coral restoration project on Oahu with 3 other nonprofits, working to build relationships and trust among stakeholders. Trained boat tour operators on Hawaii island and Oahu to teach guests about coral reefs and what can be done to protect them. Provided free training materials to these operators. Started filming and production on a short film called Paradise in Peril highlighting the current state of corals in Hawaii, what's currently being done to protect/restore them and what the future holds for this quickly dissapearing resource.$0$0
Last year we were focused on expanding our resort programs and our K-12 programs on Big Island and Maui. We developed a Coral Reef 101 and in-water coral ID course and taught at these resort locations; Four Seasons Wailea, King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel, Napili Surf and Beach Hotel. We taught our K-12 programs at these school locations; Waimea Country School, Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA), West Hawaii Exploration Academy (WHEA), Waikoloa Middle School, Ke Kula O Ehunuikaimalino Immersion School, Kealakehe Elementary School, Kealakehe Middle School, Konaweaena, Kuleana Academy, Kamaaina Kids, Makualani, Learning Center. Our programs are "Sea camp comes to you and our volunteer instructors go to location to teach our programs. We established a "pop-up" site at Kailua Pier to teach tourists about coral reefs and the effects of chemical sunscreens. We hosted multiple beach clean-ups and community events at state and county beach parks. We created new curriculum for the k-12 programs and new in-water flip charts for the coral ID course. We are working on new resort contracts to expand our resort programs with Outrogger, Mauna Lani, Hapuna Prince and Pacific 19. Our hope to teach as many tourists as possible about the negative human impacts to our oceans and what they can do to help protect and restore our precious islands natural resources while visiting.$0$0
