“Origins council provides a complete copy of form 990 to the board of directors and requests explicit authorization from all board memers prior to submission, either by unanimous motion during a board meeting or by unanimous written consent.”
“Origins council has a written conflict of interest policy which establishes procedures for the disclosure possible conflicts of interest, the determination of whether a conflict of interest exists, for addressing conflicts of interest, and for addressing violations of the conflict of interest policy. Each director, officer, or key employee is required to disclose potential conflicts of interest annually, either in writing or at the annual meeting of the board, and at any time the organization considers transactions or arrangements to which an officer, director, or key employee may be a financially interested party.”
“Beginning in 2023 and concluding in 2024, origins council established a compensation committee for the purpose of determining appropriate compensation for the executive director and to recommend just and reasonable compensation to the board. As per origins council's bylaws, the committee consisted exclusively of three directors not employed by the organization and without conflicts of interest. The committee followed guidance on best practices from the national council of nonprofits to insure that the compensation recommendations were supported by data and comparable to that of other other nonprofits with similar missions, budget sizes, and in the same region. Origins council recorded contemporaneous documentation of compensation committee deliberations and decisions leading to their recommendation, and contemporaneous documentation of board deliberation and decisions regarding the compensation arrangement.”
“Governing documents are made available to the public upon request.”
“Origins council is dedicated to sustainable rural economic development within cannabis producing regions, and establishing nationally and internationally recognized, legally defensible, standards-based, geographic indication systems for cannabis.”
“In 2024, origins council effectively advocated for legislative and regulatory changes to california law to support more sustainable statewide commercial cannabis licensing, tax and regulatory frameworks that prioritize: public health protections; small business interests; diversity, equity and inclusion goals; and environmental stewardship. The organization also successfully advanced two grant awards for research and education activity. The objectives of these grant projects focus on sustainable rural economic development for the commercial cannabis farming regions of california. All 2024 program activities directly benefited the social welfare of populations in the 47% of california jurisdictions currently supporting regulated commercial cannabis activities in california, which includes a collective population of over 30 million. Benefits also extended into the broader statewide (39 million) and national (339 million) populations, given the nascent stage of regulated commercial cannabis production and commerce, and benefits to governmental organizations, industry, public health and consumer interest groups throughout california, as well as other states learning from california's pioneering efforts.”
