Mission

Cultivating community leadership to advance health equity through collaboration, advocacy and policy change. Cultivando is a leadership, advocacy, and capacity building organization that works in collaboration with Latino community leaders and with agency partners. Our work includes culturally-relevant training, building collaboration and advocacy around equity, inclusion, HEAL and other self- identified community issues.

Heal- through our work with livewell south adams county and livewell commerce city, ce works with community members to increase access to healthy food and active living opportunities. With a focus on health equity, we collaborate with community members and agency partners to increase access to recreational centers, healthy food, transportation, and to support parents, students, and schools to develop effective and inclusive school health and wellness policies. A local food system that serves all is essential for a healthy community. Ce coordinates the los valientes community garden, which is a place to grow and harvest produce as a community. We offer a 6-week garden curriculum in spanish, cultivarte, to build the capacity of community members to cultivate local and organic foods. Ce also works with local food pantries, community members and other partners to increase the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables available in local food banks.

Leadership development-community enterprise partners with vision y compromiso, one of the most well-respected promotoras training and advocacy organizations in the country, to offer a promotoras certificate-training program in order to strengthen the leadership of spanish-speaking community members. The vision y compromiso curricula covers the foundation of the promotora model: effective communication and collaboration, adult learning styles, group dynamics, decision-making, leadership development self-care, collective advocacy, public policy, and systems change. Ce also works with vision y compromiso to support a committee of promotores and a collaborative statewide network of those who have been trained in the model. The network and committee further foster leadership development, build collaboration within the latino community, connect trained promotores to local employment, and advocacy opportunities, and link them to the greater promotores network and movement nationally.

Early childhood development-community enterprise works in partnership with spanish-speaking "family, friends and neighbors" (ffn) in-home childcare providers, who make up the majority of childcare providers in south adams county. There are approx. 37,000 preschool-aged children in adams county, but only 7,000 licensed childcare spots, meaning that the majority of children are being cared for by ffn providers, most of which do not have access to state licensing, but who are eager to develop their skills and careers and who care deeply about the children in their care and their health and educational outcomes. Ce works to connect them to available resources, to build a supportive network, offers trainings and one-on-one support, and advocate at a local and state-level for systemic acknowledgement of their contributions to our community's children, families, and economy, for more equitable distribution of resources to meet the needs of children outside of licensed care, and for changes in state law that prevents mixed-documentation status providers from being able to be licensed. Our health kids at home training supports families and ffn providers to build their capacity to promote healthy childhood development in a way that is culturally sensitive and focuses on practical strategies families can utilize in their home. It emphasizes healthy eating and active living, early literacy, and kindergarten readiness strategies for families providing in-home childcare.
