Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Building better communities by strengthening families through 4 key pillars: education, family support services, economic inclusion and community resources.

Focus points family resource center's mission is to help build better communities by (see sch o) strengthening families. The center provides community-based programs that promote economic and social integration and address a range of issues including navigating institutional obstacles. The center serves more than 1,500 low-income families per year. Most of the families served are comprised of non-native-english-speaking parents struggling to learn english while working to support their families and to prepare their children to succeed in school. Through education, the center works to help these families become self-sufficient, contributing members of the denver community.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The audit committee, or knowledgeable sub-committee comprised of the chair, vice-chair, treasurer and secretary, reviews and approves the irs form 990 annual tax filing prior to submission, and the full board receives a copy of the irs form 990 within 30 days of its submission.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

To ensure the organization operates in a manner consistent with charitable purposes and does not engage in activities that could jeopardize its tax exempt status, periodic reviews of the organization's activities are mandated as part of the conflicts of interest policy.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The board monitors the executive director to ensure that he or she is competent and effective including conducting an annual review and appraisal of the executive director's performance. In addition to ongoing monitoring the officers will provide a specific opportunity for the executive director to present a written self-evaluation and for board members to organize their evaluation of the executive director's performance and have it presented in a face-to-face briefing with the executive director. At this time, the board and the chief executive will agree on any specific, personal performance goals for the year ahead. The executive director's compensation package will be reviewed during or soon after this process and approved by a disinterested committee of the board using appropriate salary comparison data for similar organizations.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Consistent with the requirements of section 6106(d) of the internal revenue code and the regulations there under, copies of the organization's form 990 shall be made available, upon request, in a timely manner, and without charge or subject to the charges permitted by law, to any individual who request it. The organization's conflict of interest policy and financial statements shall be made available upon request to any donor or potential donor, or regulatory agency who request it. All non-donor and non-regulatory requests shall be approved by the board.
