Governance Explanations

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 11B

The 990 will be reviewed and approved by the board prior to filing.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 12C

At each monthly board meeting, conflicts of interest are requested to be disclosed at the beginning of each meeting. Should a conflict of interest be perceived or anticipated, this is subject for discussion at the executive committee or full board level.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15A

The chief executive officer's performance is reviewed by the board annually and any decisions made about pay increases are made by the executive committee.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15B

Every three years the staff gathers comparables on similar positions in the nonprofit and government sectors. These are submitted to the executive committee and then the board for review. If approved, salary ranges for staff may be altered. In addition, as part of the annual staff performance evaluation process, all staff salaries are reviewed and compensation adjusted, if merited.

Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Project self-sufficiency assisted 141 single parents during the year ended december 31, 2024. Each program participant was matched with an advisor from the project self-sufficiency staff who helps with goal setting, career planning, problem solving, barrier removal, access to education, counseling, and employment. Expenses to provide these services include salaries and benefits for program staff and program management, as well as supplies, postage, printing, office space, and other expenses related to program execution. Additional expenses related to program activities and resources that directly remove barriers to self-sufficiency are included in the categories below. See the annual program report at www.bringthepower.org for further information. Look in the "about us" section.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 2, Part V, Line 4

The permanent restricted portion cannot be spent by the organization. However, the earnings are unrestricted, and can be spent by the organization immediately for any purpose the organization chooses. The remaining balance consists of accumulated earnings which are donor restricted for the purpose of participant scholarships.

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

The organization is a nonprofit corporation and qualifies as a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. Accordingly, no provision is made in these financial statements for income taxes. The organization adopted the recognition requirements for uncertainty in income taxes as required by asc 740-10-50. The standard prescribes a comprehensive model for how an organization should recognize, measure, present and disclose in the financial statements uncertainty in income taxes. The organization's income tax filings are subject to audit by various taxing authorities. In evaluating the organization's tax provisions and accruals, interpretations and tax planning strategies are considered. The organization believes their estimates are appropriate based on current facts and circumstances and have not recorded any reserves, or related accruals for interest and penalties for uncertainty in income taxes at december 31, 2024 and 2023.
