WE OWN HISTORIC TOWN HOMES TO INTERPRET THE MINING MERCHANT HISTORY IN THIS LANDMARK HISTORIC DISTRICT. IN THE 1970S, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FORMED A FIVE(5) PART PLAN TO TEACH THE HISTORY OF COLORADO MINING AND THE MIGRATION WEST OF THE QUEST FOR SETTLEMENT IN THE TERRITORIAL OPEN SPACE LANDS THAT BECAME THE AMERICAN WEST. THE FIVE-PART PLAN WAS TO INTERPRET FOR THE PUBLIC AND SCHOOL GROUPS THE LIVES OF A MINER, A MERCHANT, A LAWYER, A SILVER BARON, AND THE HOME OF A SMALL FAMILY OFF THE WAGON TRAIN. WE OPEN THESE AREAS TO THE PUBLIC AND SCHOOLS AT NO CHARGE. OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS IS A GROUP OF 14 MEMBERS, EACH WITH A UNIQUE AND VALUABLE SET OF SKILLS. ONE MEMBER IS CURRENTLY SERVING ON THE TOWN COUNCIL, ANOTHER WORKS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER, CREATING PROGRAMS AND TRAINING PHD CANDIDATES IN GIFTED EDUCATION; THREE WOMEN ARE RETIRED TEACHERS AND NURSES, FOUR MEN ARE RETIRED BUSINESS OWNERS IN GEORGETOWN; ONE A RETIRED ARCHITECT THAT HAS WORKED ALL OVER THE STATE; AND THE OTHER MEMBERS ARE CURRENTLY NEW TO THE COMMUNITY YET BRING A WEALTH OF INFORMATION FROM AROUND THE STATES IN FUNDRAISING AND MARKETING. WHEN WE WRITE GRANTS, WHICH WE DO EVERY YEAR, WE WILL MATCH ALL FUNDS WITH A 1/3 FEE. AS WE ARE A LANDMARK HISTORIC DISTRICT, WE WILL RECEIVE A 25-30% REBATE IN THE FORM OF TAX CREDITS. IN THE 1990S, A LOCAL FAMILY BEQUEATHED TO HISTORIC GEORGETOWN A MOUNTAIN, SAXON MOUNTAIN. THIS MOUNTAIN, BEING THE HIGHEST PEAK ON THE I-70 CORRIDOR, HAS ALLOWED US TO LEASE THE LAND FOR VARIOUS CELL TOWERS, ENABLING OUR CITIZENS AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS TO HAVE CELL PHONE ACCESS, WHICH WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT THIS GIFT. THE ANNUAL PAYMENTS WE RECEIVE FROM THESE TOWERS PROVIDE A STABLE SOURCE OF FUNDS FOR OUR OPERATING EXPENSES, ENSURING OUR SMALL ORGANIZATION'S FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY.

IRS990ScheduleA/Form990ScheduleAPartVIGrp/ExplanationTxt2HISTORIC GEORGETOWN, INC. IS A 501(C)(3) ENTITY. WE OWN AN HISTORIC HOME IN GEORGETOWN, COLORADO, THAT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FOR TOURS, TO ALLOW PEOPLE TO SEE HOW OUR FOREBEARS LIVED DURING THE NINETEENTH CENTURY MINING BOOM IN THE COLORADO MOUNTAINS. WE ALSO SUPPORT RENOVATIONS OF THIS HISTORIC HOME, TO ENSURE ITS SURVIVAL FOR THE NEXT 153 YEARS. WE ALSO SUPPORT THE RENOVATION AND CONSERVATION OF SEVERAL OTHER HISTORIC PROPERTIES IN TOWN, INCLUDING A ONE ROOM LOG CABIN. OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS, A GROUP OF 14 MEMBERS, EACH WITH A UNIQUE AND VALUABLE SET OF SKILLS, BRINGS A WEALTH OF EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE TO THEIR ROLES. ONE MEMBER IS CURRENTLY SERVING ON THE TOWN COUNCIL AS A SELECTMAN; ANOTHER WORKS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER, CREATING PROGRAMS AND TRAINING PHD CANDIDATES IN GIFTED EDUCATION; OUR TREASURER OWNS A COMPOUNDING PHARMACY; THREE WOMEN ARE RETIRED TEACHERS AND NURSES; THREE MEN ARE RETIRED BUSINESS OWNERS IN GEORGETOWN; AND ONE IS A RETIRED ARCHITECT WHO HAS WORKED ALL AROUND THE STATE OF COLORADO. THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WRITES YEARLY GRANTS TO THE STATE HISTORIC FUND. IN THE PAST 5 YEARS, WE HAVE RECIVED THREE GRANTS FROM THE STATE AND TWO QUALIFIED FOR TAX CREDITS, A TESTIMENT TO OUR FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT. THIS YEAR, WE WILL RECEIVE 21,000 IN TAX CREDITS, WHICH THE STATE WILL SELL TO FUND OTHER GRANTS WE WILL BE WRITING. ALL GRANTS REQUIRE MATCHING FUNDS, AND BECAUSE THE TOWN OF GEORGETOWN IS A QUALIFIED LOCAL GOVERNMENT, IT ALLOWS US TO RECIVE A 20-30% REBATE IN THE FORM OF TAX CREDITS. IN THE 1990S, A LOCAL FAMILY BEQUEATHED TO HISTORIC GEORGETOWN A MOUNTAIN, SAXON MOUNTAIN. THIS MOUNTAIN, BEING THE HIGHEST PEAK ON THE I-70 CORRIDOR, HAS ALLOWED US TO LEASE THE LAND FOR VARIOUS CELL TOWERS. THE ANNUAL PAYMENTS WE RECEIVE FROM THIS ARRANGEMENT PROVIDE A STABLE SOURCE OF FUNDS FOR OUR OPERATING EXPENSES, ENSURING OUR FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY. WE HAVE A MEMBERSHIP BASE FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY THAT WE ARE GROWING EVERY YEAR AND WE USE COLORADO GIVES FOR OUR PLATFORM TO HAVE DONORS CONTRIBUTE FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, WHICH IS ALSO GROWING. SOCIAL MEDIA ALSO ALLOWS US TO HAVE SMALL FUNDRAISERS. FOR EXAMPLE, THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR HAD ONE THAT RAISED A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR THE HAMILL HOUSE AND THE EDUCATION PROGRAM WE WROTE FOR ALL FOURTH GRADERS IN THE STATE OF COLORADO.
