“Professional membership in the nppa is open to all individuals who are working or aspiring towards working in the field of visual journalism. This includes those who work or freelance in photography, multimedia, audio, video, design, editing, producing, teaching, writing, reporting, or visual journalism on the web. Members of the nppa may work for an organization or institution or be self-employed. Members also include students studying photojournalism and retired photojournalists. Student members have voting rights, beginning june 2009. Members in good standing elect the officers of the organization. They do not have voting rights over decisions made by the governing body.”

Based on these factors, the compensation package is retained or modified. Non-executive director compensation is established as part of the board's review & approval of the annual proposed budget.”
