“OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Healing and Empowerment: Christmas Basket Program JOY Internationals Christmas Sponsorship program is dedicated to blessing survivors in the U.S. and at-risk girls and their families in Uganda, helping them experience the love and hope of our Savior during the Christmas season. Working with our partner restoration homes, we provide Christmas gifts and cards to each survivor and any children they have, helping to show them how much their community cares for and supports them. In 2022, JOY International sponsored 50 adult and children survivors in the U.S. and 34 at-risk girls and their families in Uganda for Christmas. Small gifts and cards were also given to 41 staff members from 5 agencies in CO, NC, and VA. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Healing and Empowerment: Trauma Informed Care Training In 2022, JOY International partnered with other anti-trafficking organizations to bring vital trauma-informed human trafficking training to the staff of partner organizations in Nepal. Teachings included trauma- informed care, psychopharmacology, Trust-Based Relational Intervention, boundaries, and staff self-care. We also spent time ministering to the staff and encouraging them in their work. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Prevention: The 6:8 Freedom Project In 2022, JOY International embarked on a significant journey to create a curriculum for children and teens to learn about and engage in the fight against human trafficking. This year-long project included filming in Uganda, Belize, Southeast Asia, and the United States. The result of this work is The 6:8 Freedom Project, a free-online curriculum intended for homeschool use but relevant to any eager learner. Based on Micah 6:8, the 6:8 FreedomProject curriculum provides an age appropriate, faithbased look into trafficking around theworld, while encouraging students to discover their own passions and gifts to make a difference. . OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Prevention and Empowerment: Empowering Education In 2022, JOY International funded the education of 34 girls in Uganda, offering them hope for a brighter future. Each of these girls is vulnerable to being trafficked or forced into marriage as a child bride. Some of the girls have been sold into marriage at a young age and many are living without parents. By providing for their education, we are increasing the chances each of their lives will be spent pursuing all of the good that God has in store for them! In 2022, JOY International also purchased land in Uganda with the intention of building a community center in the area to expand our prevention and empowerment efforts in the area. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: Prevention: Self-Defense for Women JOY International staff taught several self-defense courses domestically and internationally for women that not only covered physical defense, but situation awareness as well. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: Prevention: Community Awareness JOY International staff hosted nine Barefoot Mile events and Dr. Jeff Brodsky spoke in several states to raise awareness and educate communities on Human Trafficking.
