“Guru nanak's kitchen's objective is to continue the legacies of guru nanak dev ji's 4 main principles of life: 1. Earn an honest living (kirat), 2. Share whatever you have (vand chakhna), 3. Meditate (naam japna) and 4. Help others in need (sewa karni). To help disadvantaged families by providing financial assistance, food, clothing and supplies to the needy and money and grants to charitable tax exempt organizations and individuals in need, to help them lead more productive lives and return to a normal and safe way of living. From the very beginning, we have dedicated ourselves into serving humanity. By god's grace, we have been blessed to have the opportunity to serve fresh cooked meals to homeless shelters in nassau, suffolk and queens counties. In the winters we also collect and donate blankets, comforters, jackets and other clothing to help keep everyone warm. We hold drives in our communities to collect essentials and distribute them to anyone who needs them. Items range from diapers, feminine hygiene items, deodorants, tooth brushes, toothpaste, etc. At this time, we cook and serve food for tuesday meals. In the near future, we are planning to offer more meals throughout the week and hopefully offer occupational classes so that anyone who wants to take these classes will have a better chance of getting hired and rise from their current conditions.”
