Plants and Blooms Reimagined's (PBR) mission is to facilitate the accessibility of therapeutic horticultural engagement via the predominant use of repurposed flowers and indoor plants to achieve enhanced wellbeing for vulnerable communities in the DC area.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Therapeutic and Educational Program. PBR's largest engagement is a psycho/social wellness program providing indoor nature exposure/engagement (INE) via site-adapted, evidence-based therapeutic horticulture, comprised of interactive nature interventions (adapted for diverse users) via the primary application of indoor plants and cut flowers as a means of realizing impactful connections and experiences for vulnerable and marginalized members of our community. 80% of our programs serve older adults, 70% of whom are under resourced. Approximately 15% of our constituents are also part of the mental health and addiction recovery community. We also serve differently abled older adults, homeless women and survivors of domestic violence in the DC region. PBR has delivered at least 1,120 hours of therapeutic consulting services since 2017. In 2024 alone, PBR served 320 unduplicated older adults, 95 unduplicated addiction recovery and mental health individuals, and 35 other unduplicated community members.$0$49,743
Plant and Flower Recovery, Repurposing and Distribution Program. In support of PBR's mission is the conscious sourcing, repurposing and utilizing of viable second-hand plants and flowers to facilitate additional nature engagement for vulnerable communities in the Washington DC region, promoting environmental sustainability, and lowering material and supply costs. PBR, leveraging a cadre of dedicated helpers donating over 150 hours of time annually, receives and relocates and/or uses programmatically, indoor plants and repurposes flower donations to supplement its primary programming or to create thousands of bouquets annually to gift to nursing, rehabilitative and wellness centers throughout the region. PBR engages dedicated, service oriented retirees as volunteers in support of many aspects of this work. Through its unique collaboration with local florists and the floral and event industry (locally and nationally), PBR has recovered more than 60,000 post-event florals and 25,000 surplus flowers, resulting in more than 25,000 repurposed and distributed bouquets and 300 donated floral arrangements since its inception. PBR has also become the established local organization for indoor plant "adoption" providing members of the plant community a viable option when having to part with their plants. More than 150 indoor plants have been reused or gifted to local service organizations.$0$13,700
