Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The school is organized as a not-for-profit corporation under the alabama nonprofit corporation act. The united states conference of catholic bishops received a letter dated june 2, 2017, which states that the agencies, instrumentalities, educational, charitable and religious institutions operated, supervised or controlled by or in connection with the roman catholic church in the united states, its territories or possessions appearing in the official catholic directory are exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. The school is listed in the 2023 edition of the official catholic directory and is therefore exempt from federal income and unemployment taxes. The school is subject to unrelated business income tax (ubit) only if it engages in activities subject to the ubit regulations. Tax positions are initially recognized in the financial statements when it is more likely than not the position will be sustained upon examination by the tax authorities. The school had no uncertain tax positions that qualify for either recognition or disclosure in the financial statements as of june 30, 2024 and 2023 based on an assessment of many factors including experience and interpretations of tax laws.
