“The mission of laser is to provide safe shelter for barn animals during evacuations in yavapai county and to provide information for emergency preparedness. In 2024, we were activated by the yavapai county office of emergency management for 1 wildfire on august 8th. The shelter was prepared and staffed but the evacuation ended quickly and no animals arrived. Laser was also on standby status for 3 other wildfires, but not activated. Training in the first 6 months, laser held 6 drills with its volunteers, some with live animals. A board member attended a session on governance fiscal responsibilities and one of our emergency operations center team members attended 2 fema training sessions. In our continuous efforts to equip and maintain our shelters, we set up more stalls with netting to accommodate poultry, purchased supplies, and worked with yavapai county to lay gravel at the entrance of our primary shelter.”
“Volunteers as of the end of the year, laser has 69 volunteers registered on our better impact software. They accumulated 4,872 volunteer hours in 2024, including mandatory recertification training, special educational meetings on goats and long-eared equines. Laser had booths at 2 volunteer recruitment events and, with the help of a grant from 4imprint, provided t-shirts for each volunteer. For the second part of our mission, laser promotes emergency readiness. Our i am ready program encourages animal owners to pre-populate their intake forms now to expedite the intake process during an emergency these forms are made available on our website. We also provided this service to local boarding stables, visiting american ranch, granite mountain stables, and horses with heart. Collaboration and networking are vital to get the word out about the resources laser offers our community and, we continue to learn from the experiences of other similar groups. In 2024, laser representatives”
“In 2024, laser representatives 1 attended numerous meetings of county and statewide stakeholders and held offices within those groups attended the national volunteers active in disaster nvoad conference in phoenix attended virtual meetings and the annual summit of the california community animal response teams cal-carts, at uc davis, sacramento, ca 2 met with leaders of local camps to discuss their evacuation plans for people and animals 3 met with stakeholders in the verde valley to discuss their evacuation and sheltering plans 4 joined and participated in various chamber of commerce events in prescott, prescott valley, and chino valley 5 produced and emailed 5 newsletters to more than 360 subscribers with information on emergency preparedness, news inside laser, a volunteer spotlight, and how to donate 6 conducted an every door direct mail eddm campaign, sending postcards to 1,000 area homes with information about laser 7 wrote various newspaper magazine articles as well as gave radio and tv interviews 8 maintained a social media presence on facebook with 888 followers”
“9 continued to update our website, which received 4,844 visitors in 2024 10 maintained a google business profile, which had 13,827 views 11 participated in the chino valley territorial days parade in august 12 set up booths at 11 community events handing out brochures, emergency preparedness info, recruiting volunteers, and fundraising and, 13 made powerpoint presentations to 7 local groups and police departments. Laser is empowered by the generosity of our community. Fundraising efforts are ongoing throughout the year. Our major and very successful fundraiser in 2024 was a homes of distinction tour, offering 4 unique homes for viewing, a luncheon, and raffle. We signed up for roundup at the register opportunities with several businesses and receive quarterly funds from the frys community rewards program. We joined a corporate giving platform, benevity, and received a donation matched by a major corporation. One of our volunteers crochets barn animals, which we sell at our booths. We held two dine-out events at local restaurants, which not only raised funds, but promoted camaraderie. Laser also applied for 5 grants and received 4, totaling 7,000 for community outreach, t-shirts, and sponsorship of our home tour.”
“Recognition in early december, governor katie hobbs presented laser with the 2024 governors volunteer award for disaster response and several laser volunteers made a trip to the state capitol in phoenix. The governors office of youth, faith, and family recognizes individuals and groups who have dedicated their hearts, hands, and minds to help strengthen communities and solve persistent problems within arizona. The award for disaster response is given to individuals, groups, businesses, or organizations that help to prepare for, protect against, respond to, and recover from disasters and/or emergencies in the community. Laser is eternally grateful for this award.”
