“Our South Carolina Teacher of the Year program identifies, recognizes, and celebrates exceptional educators in our state. Each spring, the teachers are honored and recognized at a Gala in the Garden at the Governors Mansion, where our State Teacher of the Year is also announced. Before the Gala in the Garden, the 5 Teacher of the Year finalists are surprised in their schools with a celebration and have an Interview Day and luncheon with the top 5 teachers and an esteemed panel of judges to select our State Teacher of the Year. The TOY program awards, and gala not only assist in retention efforts but also serve as a powerful recruitment tool.”

“The Military Honor Cord Ceremony supports the SC Department of Education in hosting an annual appreciation ceremony to publicly recognize high school seniors who will be or have enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces or will be attending one of our distinguished military service academies. Seniors who have chosen to serve our country are presented with red, white, and blue graduation honor cords, which they wear during their high school graduation ceremonies.”

“The SDEF facilitates the funding of the SC African American History Calendar AAHC Ceremony, which the SC Department of Education puts on in conjunction of the calendar release. This event recognizes and celebrates the calendar honorees and unveils the calendar for the upcoming year to the community. The SC AAHC provides educators, parents, and students with a method of identifying African American role models for all youth and honors notable African American achievers with ties to South Carolina. The calendar is distributed and used in schools across the state as a resource for teaching and learning South Carolina African American History.”

“United States Senate Youth Program SCEF supports the SCDEs efforts in selecting the two SC delegates for the US Senate Youth Program. SCEF accomplishes this by funding an in-person interview day with the top ten nominees and a luncheon. The two chosen delegates from South Carolina attend a week-long intensive in Washington, DC, participating in once-in-a-lifetime experiences and receive an undergraduate scholarship.”

“South Carolina Principal of Excellence Award The South Carolina Principal of Excellence Award recognizes exceptional school principals for their visionary leadership and commitment to student success, with the inaugural award given in 2024. Established in partnership between the SC Chamber of Commerce, the SC Department of Education, and the SC Education Foundation, the award celebrates principals who create supportive learning environments and foster continuous academic improvement, leading to transformed school environments and higher SC Report Card ratings.”
