“Moonlighter fablab provides equitable access to hands-on steam education, creative technologies, and workforce development opportunities for youth and educators across miami-dade county. In 2024, we served over 1,200 students through afterschool programs, summer camps, homeschool sessions, and school field trips focused on design thinking, digital fabrication, robotics, and environmental innovation. We hosted community events such as maker faire miami, which featured over 150 makers and attracted thousands of attendees. We also supported over 100 educators through professional development workshops and trained high school interns in design, fabrication, and career readiness. These programs foster creativity, critical thinking, and 21st-century skills while expanding access to emerging technologies. Moonlighter fablab provided low-cost membership access to over a quarter million dollars of tools and equipment for over 55 individuals, families, non-profits, and startups to use to develop novel works. Moonlighter's robust educational programs served over 1000 students across various programs: the steam+ partnership with the bass museum and the city of miami beach served over 221 students across 3 schools for in-school science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics enrichment programs which culminated in an end of semester school showcase at each site. The program was key to helping these schools obtain gold level steam designation from miami-dade county public schools. Our steam field trips served over 710 students across miami-dade county including 294 miami beach students served at no cost as part of our community benefits partnership with the city. Our after school and homeschool programs collectively served 81 students across two school sites and moonlighter fablab, which empowered students with technology and engineering skills across two semesters. Our spring and summer camps served over 52 students, 18 of which were provided a full scholarship for underserved students and children with disabilities to participate in 5 weeks of programming at no cost to the families with the support of the miami-dade county department of cultural affairs and the children's trust. Our community events and workshops served over 3500 people with low or no cost programming including 32 free events. Moonlighter fablab's flagship annual event, maker faire miami, gathered over 4200 attendees including over 250 presenting makers showcasing their work to the public. The event gathered over a dozen schools participating in various programs throughout the weekend including 4 first robotics teams, 48 family teams for robot renegades, and 4 high schools participating in a weekend-long build-a-thon where they were tasked with creating a working electric vehicle. Over 150 educators received free entry as part of a professional development initiative that encourages teachers to incorporate steam and project-based learning curriculum into their classrooms. The community was able to hear from a dozen leaders in the maker movement who spoke at the event and shared their expertise in various technology, engineering, and artistic practices. This event serves as the great convening of our region's maker community to celebrate their creativity and inspire them with the stories of leaders from around the world who are shaping the future of creative innovation. Moonlighter fablab continues to serve makers of all ages and abilities and empower them with the skills, tools, and opportunities to shape a better future.”
