Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
In Ukraine, we provided grants to support 5,000 cats and dogs, victims of immense suffering and misery ($88,080 to Wildlife and Welfare; Registered UK Charity: 1177425). The funds were designated for cats and dogs living in Odessa and Kharkiv, and the surrounding areas. In total, we provided 26,050 kg of dog food and 15,850 kg of cat food; built 25 new dog and cat houses for those left on the streets, helping them to survive the unbearably frigid winters and offering much needed safety against the bombings raining down upon the region; spayed and neutered 771 dogs and cats and provided emergency vet treatment to dozens of others. We also awarded a $1,300 film grant to Just Wondering to support the development of a short video essay titled "Escape, Resistance and Solidarity."$89,380$1,410
Stop Octopus Farming: Arukah Animal International is actively campaigning to stop the first industrial commercial farming of octopuses through the development of an animated short film with an award-winning filmmaking team, an online petition against octopus farming, a series of social media collaborations, blogs, and educational merchandise. "Tiny Liquid Ballerina," our first tribute to wondrous octopuses, was created in partnership with artist Noam Oxman for Eurogroup for Animals and debuted on World Octopus Day. This mesmerizing collaboration was viewed over 446,550 times across social media platforms. We also created a series of special edition merchandise-limited release t-shirts and coffee mugs to bolster our film and propel the Stop Octopus Farming movement. Each item boasts original artwork created by collaborating artists who have teamed up with Arukah Animal International to prevent the onslaught of commercial octopus farming.$0$5,249
Raising Awareness Online about Animal Protection: To amplify our message and reach, we have expanded our Website offerings to showcase our live-streamed panels, short films, and blogs, which range in subject matter from animal victims of war in Ukraine to new laws impacting homeless cats and dogs in Turkey to campaigning against a proposed commercial octopus farm in the Canary Islands. We now have a dedicated gallery Webpage displaying animal art as well as cherished books about more-than-human animals. Our newsletters keep hundreds of supporters updated on our progress and upcoming initiatives. This online presence serves as a central hub for knowledge-sharing and engagement with our cause.$0$4,896
Animals in Media: In partnership with The Animal Turn podcast, we live-streamed "Animals in Media," premiering the video, "Animalized Hierarchies in Popular Contagion Films," followed by a stirring conversation about how popular media impact the way we perceive and interact with other animals. Such representations are often speciesist and hold great sway upon our political and moral imaginations. Hosted by The Animal Turn's Claudia Hirtenfelder, guests include renowned media scholars Claire Parkinson, Edge Hill University, Lancashire, England; Susan McHugh, The University of New England, Maine, USA; and Tobias Linné, Lund University, Lund, Sweden. "Animals in Media" was produced by René R. Fraedrich, a digital artist for Octopus Media Productions. A remastered version is available on our Website for future audiences to enjoy.$0$3,498
Building Community through Social Media: We recognize the tremendous significance of social media in building a robust community around our mission. Using various platforms, we share our films, stories, and artwork, encouraging and inspiring participation and lively and meaningful discussions. In 2024, our video content was played over 9,083,085 times by approximately 6,201,914 people. Additionally, we collaborate with scholars and artists and activists, enriching the dialogue about animal rights and connecting with a wider audience. Through social media engagement, we continuously expand our reach and stir audiences into action on behalf of other animals, fighting against everyday exploitation and cruelty and aspiring toward a multispecies future, where every individual lives a flourishing life of freedom.$0$3,102
