Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 2

The covid-19 pandemic has taken an economic toll on america's workers. With unemployment rates not seen since the great depression, workers across the country are trying to reorient themselves in the face of an uncertain future. To address this critical need, the organization launched an upskilling solution built to help america's laid-off and furloughed workers access the training and employment opportunities they need to secure a place in the economy of the future. Rather than push workers back into jobs just like the ones they left, the organization gives workers the opportunity to build new skills that are suited to in-demand jobs with promising career paths. The organization also enables partners to share best practices, collaborate on shared challenges, and participate in public engagement campaigns that help covid-19-impacted workers begin a prosperous new stage in their careers. The organization works with our partners to create an affordable, equitable, relevant upskilling ecosystem that works well for workers, employers, and society.

Form 990, Part III, Line 3

In july 2020, the organization ceased operations of its previous programs and undertook its new mission to address employment challenges brought about by the covid-19 pandemic.

Form 990, Part IX, Line 11G

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is a nonprofit organization that is exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and section 23701(d) of the revenue and taxation code of the state of california. Accordingly, no provisions for income taxes or related credits are included in these financial statements. The organization is not a private foundation under section 509(a)(i) and 170(b)(a)(vi) of the internal revenue code. The organization has adopted the accounting standard related to uncertainties in income taxes. The organization evaluates uncertain tax positions through its review of the source of revenue to identify unrelated business income and certain other matters, including those which may affect its tax exempt status. Management believes their estimates related to income tax uncertainties are appropriate based on the current facts and circumstances. The organization is subject to examination by a major tax jurisdiction back to inception (2018).
