Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2

Alyssa Waddell, co-Executive Director of the organization, is the sister of Keirstyn Daku who is an authorized representative of the organization and a CPA who is compensated for her contracted services. Additionally, both Alyssa Waddell, co-Executive Director of the organization, and Lindsey Hodge, President of the Board of the organization, are employed by a church with which RJ Grunewald, Secretary of the filing organization, is associated as a Pastor/director.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 3

Keirstyn Daku is a CPA who is compensated for her contracted services. She is an authorized representative of the organization and, as such, performs acts with respect to various tax matters. Some of the duties she is responsible for may include duties customarily performed by or under the direct supervision of a Finance Director, including financial reporting as well as compliance with financial and statutory regulations.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The return preparer emailed a copy of the final version of the Form 990 to the Board Treasurer and co-Executive Directors before it was filed. The Board Treasurer conducted a review, emailed to Board of Directors for any additional comments, and approved the final document to authorize filing.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Any board member who becomes aware of a potential conflict of interest with respect to any matter coming before the Board makes this potential conflict known immediately in any discussion relating to the matter. When a conflict of interest is identified, a majority vote determines what action must be taken in any given situation including the related board member not being involved in any aspect of the decision making process, refraining from voting, or other listed options. For each voting decision conducted at the board meetings during the filing year, any directors with a perceived conflict of interest abstained from voting on such decision. An example of this being conducted during the filing year was during the determination of compensation rate for the Co-Executive Directors.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The compensation of the Co-Executive Directors was reviewed and approved unanimously by the independent voting members of the Board of Directors during the presentation of the annual budget. In 2022, the Board Treasurer compared the compensation rate against the compensation data of other local nonprofits prior to the Board approving. Every subsequent year, the Board has approved a pay raise to reflect inflation while still keeping the adjusted salary well below the average rate for local nonprofits of similar size. The voting and unanimous decision is recorded within the board minutes.

This includes coordinating, wrapping, and distributing donated items to the families on Christmas Eve via an "adopt-a-family" format. In 2024, 71 families across 13 trailer parks (181 children and 143 adults total) were blessed with toys, clothing, essentials, and grocery gift cards to get them through the holiday season.

Youth nights meet once per week at each of the three locations and served about 100 youth total. We offered a total of six different summer camps to our students, including tent camping, mission trips, and VBS. HOHM also hosted many summer community BBQs, an Easter celebration at each People Plant location, and provided 1-on-1 and group mentoring opportunities.

School supplies aided about 65 students going back to school. Dozens of winter kits were distributed to homes including blankets, window wraps, and other supplies to help low-income families keep their bodies and homes warm during the freezing months. Grocery store gift cards and donated bikes, beds, and furniture were also distributed to families in need.
